Happy New Year…Hike!
For the 39th time, hikers (and non) will gather in Georgetown to start a new year of hiking with a New Year’s Day hike. I haven’t done it 39 times, but maybe I will. Anyway, you can join this year…I mean, next year, for this traditional way to work off some of the holiday cheer, if you know what I mean. It’s a good start to meeting that resolution you made. (I know you made it.)
We’ll walk along the C&O Canal about five miles to the Little Falls Pump Station, and back. You can walk at your own pace and turn around sooner (or later) if you want to do less (or more) than 10 miles (2 blisters). Since it’s a big group, walking at your pace is a good thing, especially if you are nursing a headache.
It’s real easy. To join us, meet at 9:30 am (on Tuesday, January 1, of course) on the west side of Wisconsin Avenue, near the canal, south of M Street. There is a small plaza next to the now-closed (and not bad) Papa-Razzi Restaurant (1066 Wisconsin Av, NW) and near the canal entrance to the Shops at Georgetown Park. Bring snacks or lunch and water. Oh, yeah—It’s OK to bring a leashed pet, presumably, yours.
Here are the pix from the 38th time this was done:

Coming soon (Jan 6) is an easy afternoon hike in Wheaton Regional Park, that will cover 3 miles and movies, followed by the “Garden of Lights” holiday display at Brookside Gardens in the evening, with a winter-plant exhibit, a model-train display, musical entertainment, and refreshments. What more could you possibly want?
Wishing you a wonderful and wander-full New Year!
Cheers (but not too much),
