Hike Catoctin

It’s hard to say anything glib with the current tragedy in Haiti. I am feeling quite a bit helpless, and certainly fortunate. If you are looking for a way to help, please check: http://tinyurl.com/yg2hjhu.

On Saturday (this coming one), with a just-in-time warming trend to help cure our cabin fever, we’ll hit several of the high spots in Catoctin Mountain Park and Cunningham Falls State Park during a vigorous (4 blisters or difficult) loop-y hike, starting from the visitor center, and hopefully ending there as well. It will be a moderately-to-fastly paced hike of 9.5 miles and over 5000 feet of elevation change. (It’s sometimes necessary to elevate your feet.) We will not overlook any overlooks and we’ll make sure to examine the wondrous Cunningham Falls, Maryland’s finest.

To carpool, meet at 8 am at the west side parking lot of Twinbrook Metro station (towards Rockville Pike, along Chapman Ave). Bring water and a bag lunch or two, and good shoes. We’ll have an optional food-and-refreshment stop at a microbrewery, Brewer’s Alley in Old Towne Frederick, on our return road trip.

This is an SCPRO hike led by Vicky Hsu (301/[masked], after 6 pm; [address removed]) and yours truly. Beginners should contact Vicky for more about what to expect.
