Thank you Mike for arranging this!!
Garry, can you talk Greg into Canada, too?

    March 12, 2014

  • Garry

Judy and I had a great time. This was Judy's first long ride. She might not have been quite ready for 85+ mph and so many hours in the saddle, but she hung in there. Now she's talking about the Canada trip... lol. It was great meeting many of you, thanks to Mike for put it together and to everyone else for the great company!

I had a great time and it was nice meeting all of you. Unfortunately my bike ran too rich, and decided to head back early. I wanted thank Nancy, Greg, Dan, Mike for looking out for me and especially Tony for escort me home. I lost count how many times I had to pull over and waited for the carb to clear up. Regardless, I still had a blast and nice to meet all of you that made the ride. -Phaich

Group rides don't get much better than this one. Death Valley was quite the adventure as was Beatty, NV and Ridgecrest, CA. And topping everything off was the lunch stop on our way back Monday afternoon at Di Cicco's. Mike "the Don" Turner really out did himself on this ride. Kudos to him for all of his efforts in organizing, leading, herding, etc. this ride.

And a big thanks to all the riders for making this such a special and memorable ride.

Can I give it 10 stars? 5 doesn't do this experience justice. What an incredible place, peeps and ride. Thanks Mike for organizing and demonstrating 'the pose' in a whole new fashion...You're the best!!

    2 · March 10, 2014

  • Mike T.

THANKS AGAIN! To EveryONE who made it on this ride! What a Memorable one this one was, huh? Such vast Vistas and open land. We are so lucky that it's right in our backyard. And the Weather was PERFECT!! With Rain in the Valley just a few days before WE got to glimpse a Rare site! Not only was Death Valley Green, WE were able to see Flowers! A truly once in a lifetime event as they are there for a couple of day a year if that!

The RIDE was Excellent. YOU guys are SO entertaining we laughed our Asses off! The Food was great, when we got service. And if you missed DiCicco's Restaurant, well, all I can say is you missed the whole reason I did this ride! LOL! And I would do it all again next weekend! WHO'S WITH ME??????

What a fantabulous way to visit the moon on earth. Thanks for arranging our adventure, Mike. And thanks to everyone for the stories, fun, and laughter. Yay.

I just returned from 5 days in Death Valley doing the off and on road thing, I decided I've had my fill of the Valley of Death, so I'm bowing out.

If anyone wants my reservations, please private message me and we can transfer them to you. I will wait 24 hours before I cancel them.

Mel's, simple breakfast place, it is possible for them to handle a bigish group, but someone has to get there early to hold the tables. (5 - minute walk from the motel)

Hi Guys, please check your credit card statements for the hotel Exchange Club Motel. I noticed that they charged my card the day I called ... so don't double pay if you already paid. If they already charged you, bring a copy of your credit card statement showing the charge.

    Mike,
You will see me out there soon... Yes, I've done 3-4 day runs on this bike many times. I just wanted to explore more non street bike areas in the Death Valley area where my 4 wheel could. And yes, I'm not a fan of freeways. All the best...

    March 4, 2014

  • Garry

Weather forecast looks good. No rain so far and Death Valley high temps around 80, lows around 50. Sounds great to me.

    March 3, 2014

  • Gary G.

I gave this trip a lot of thought and I think my sport bike is not an ideal ride for such a long trip. So, I'll be passing on this trip. I am looking forward to the mid May Fortuna 36/299 road trip. I'll see you then...

    All the best,
    Gary

    February 21, 2014

    • Dan

Gary and Jonny, Understanding limitations is a big part of Wanderlust and why it is so much fun to ride with the group. You guys are miles ahead of the game. Looking forward to riding with you on rides that you are comfortable with.

      March 1, 2014

    • Mike T.

Hey Guys! While it's true your bikes may not be the "best" fit for this kind of ride. We have had several people go on sport bikes, on this exact ride. We try to avoid the "Long boring freeway" riding but it's a fact of life. But all the rest...Is what makes these kinds of rides worth it. But more importantly is have you done a 2 or 3 or 4 day ride in a row? That's the part that you need to build up to. But I'm sure we'll see you out there soon!

      1 · March 3, 2014

  • Alistair

This kind of ride is why I bought a motorcycle in the first place. This is exactly what I want to be doing, cruising through California, enjoy the scenery, friends, food and bikes. Sadly, I'm still a bit of a newbie and this would be a stretch for my skills. However, I'm looking forward to more chances to do something like this.

    1 · March 2, 2014

Mike, you're correct...rain will bring flowers to dessert floor but disappear in a couple of dates. I worked in High Dessert So Cal for a couple of years. Also might see some fantastic cloud formations and lightening.

    March 1, 2014

  • Ron B.

Sounds like great trip but not ready for that length of a ride. Need to learn new bike first, get the kinks out.
Will participate as schedule allows. Looking forward to meeting and riding with ya!

    February 26, 2014

  • Mike T.

Keep your fingers crossed! There is a double storm coming in that starts on Wed, It could rain for 5 days. It's coming in from the south and my drench the Bay Area to L.A. But most of all it may bring RAIN to Death Valley! We may see a flower bloom rarely seen!

    1 · February 22, 2014

    • Greg L.

Rain like that will play havoc with the dirt roads in DV. I may just abandon my plans to do any off-roading and ride the Harley instead of the R1200GS.

I've done extensive riding in Death Valley, both on and off road, if anyone wants to try the road less traveled, I'll be happy to show you some of the easier off road destinations.

    • Mike T.

Please; if Anyone is planning on going "Off Road" check w/ me and Tejas. You need to be qualified so this doesn't turn into a "Rescue" operation!

I'm looking to buy a new bike. I'd love to go on this trip (wanted to in December), but I didn't think my bike could handle it.
If I can get a bike before I'll definitely join.
If anyone knows of a bike selling for less than 4,000 or 4,500 let me know!

Yes, I was charged as well $62.13 on my visa bill by the Exchange Club Hotel as well. I'm really disappointed by this kind of business practice...Doesn't seem right to me...

    January 21, 2014

  • Matt

Has anyone else also been charged by the Exchange Club Motel (for Saturday night, March 8)? I just noticed a charge on my credit card by them for $62.13. This seemed strange to me since I'm usually not charged by a hotel until checkout.

    January 18, 2014

Yes, I was charged for $67.xx even though I specified it was with Wanderlust.

So I guess there was some confusion from the desk clerk at the Exchange Club Motel in Beatty, NV. Very difficult to understand but the bottom line WE have to book 12 rooms in order to get the $59.95 rate. It has to be under MY name or Wanderlust. Still it's a good deal as there are only a couple other motels in the area and one of them only has 4 rooms left!
