Wahclella Falls Hike!

Hi Wandering Friends!

As several of you know, I am out of town for two weeks for work commitments, but no fear! One of our amazing members (Deni Mansfield) has offered to host a hike on August 2nd at noon to enjoy Wahclella Falls. This is an easy two mile hike round trip. Short, beautiful, and not steep. Check out this link for more information on the hike and falls: http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/wiki/Wahclella_Falls_Hike

The area is approximately 33 minutes from Portland near Bonneville.  Use the website and GPS to find your way, or take I-84 to Bonneville then take Exit 40. Then turn south (away from the dam) to find the signed trailhead.  PLEASE NOTE: there is a $5.oo fee at trailhead. Please be sure to bring this with you.

Feel free to connect regarding rideshare and for specific questions, please message Deni since she is hosting. Once I'm back in Portland I look forward to seeing all of you again and planning another hike. March on Wanderers! :D

To send a private message, click on the persons name, then under their name click send email. It's quite simple. I will be coming from Milwaukie and would like to carpool if anyone has room or wants to join me.

I live in Hawthorne area. If Patricia is still willing & has room for both of us, we could meet at MAX station & ride with Patricia. Also, Patricia asked if 11 am meet would give us enough time. I'm guessing yes but don't know. Oh..I need to be back no later than 5:00. What say you both?

    Hi,

I need to add a plus 1 to my rsvp but am not sure there's a way to edit it without changing my rsvp to a no. Anywho, my 18 year-old son will be joining us. Thanks

I went to the falls yesterday mostly to check out the parking situation. The lot at the trailhead is very small (maybe 10 spaces). There is a bigger lot about 1/3 mile to the left of the trailhead. There is also some limited street parking. Hopefully if enough people car pool we will all fit. Also reference book rates this an "easy-ish" trail. I would rate it moderate. The trail is narrow and there are a few fairly steep places . Just sayin...I will have a sign- Wannabe Wanderers. See you Saturday! Bring water.

August Half-Moon Drum/Dance at Sellwood Riverfront Park (with Potluck), next time.

    • Alexa

Is that a meet up event, can anyone attend that event? I used to belong to a drum dance club in southern California two years ago.

Are (small, friendly) dogs welcome on these hikes? (Assuming they are allowed on the particular trails.)

    2 · July 26

    • Melinda

So far we have found this to be a dog friendly group. :) Thanks for asking in case anyone RSVPing wants to object. Otherwise it should be fine.

I believe dogs are welcome on this trail

Hi Lynda. I live in the Hawthorne-Belmont area. Where do you live? Also, I need to be home no later than 5. Don't know if that would work for you.

      July 26

    • Lynda

I'm in Vancouver and maybe can take one other person. My Miata is not a great carpool car. I'm waiting to commit fully as my work schedule can be wonky and I don't want to promise anyone just to cancel on them.

This is an awesome hike - one of my favorites and I think good for this group. Basically level, lots of water, cliffs, dripping moss.

Sounds like it will be great! Sorry I'll miss it. :( I want to make sure you get your book back before your next hike! Should I mail it?

  • Sandy W.

This is a beautiful hike, but it's the only one I've been on this summer! It is smart to have hiking shoes or at least shoes with tread. Not sure if I want to go again, but am anxious to join the group on the next one. I especially appreciate the start time :)

    July 25

  • John C.

I would enjoy going on this hike (even though I've done it before); it would be a good one to "break in" with a new group. My wife has the car that day however. If someone is willing to car pool (I'm in Damascus), I'd kick in for gas AND I have a pass so we wouldn't have to pay for parking there.
