Difficult Run - Middle Section

We will hike along the Faifax County Cross-County Trail up Difficult Run from Lawyers Road to Vale Road (see http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/cct/cctoverview.htm). This remarkably undisturbed valley provides a pleasant outing in the midst of suburbia. We will learn about the flora and fauna in winter, as well as the history of human habitation along the stream. The trail is dirt or gravel, mostly level, with one stream crossing. We will do about 7 miles out-and-back (3.5 miles each way) at a moderate pace (2 - 2.5 mph). Lunch after the hike optional.

Dogs: Allowed, leashed

Guest Expert: Samira Meyercord, wetlands scientist

Leader: Ken Meyercord, (571)[masked]

Directions: From the beltway, take the Dulles Toll Road (Rt. 267) towards Reston. Exit at Hunters Mill Rd. Left on Hunters Mill, then right onto Sunrise Valley Dr. at the light. Go about half a mile, then left at the light onto South Lakes Dr., then left at the next light onto Twin Branches Rd. The Lake Audubon pool is on the right just before the lake.

The hike was good, although I only made it for 4 of 7 miles. Will hike again with this group. Very much enjoyed the information about the area.

The hounds enjoyed the hike, I think they thought it was a hunt, but it was fun for them and their owner.

Please see question about rides. I live in REston so can I just meet you there? And I am not sure if I will have to pay one dollar when I click on the 'done' below.

I've recently moved to Reston and this would be an ideal way to learn more about my new hometown! Besides, I love to hike :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
