Take in the Cherry Blossom Parade in the morning (see http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/2012/10/02/2013parade/) or not, then join us for a brisk hike to stop and smell the cherries. From the Smithsonian Metro we'll hike down 14th to the Maine Avenue Fish Market (for a bite to eat, if hungry), then across the bridge to East Potomac Park. We'll walk the whole park, down to Hains Point, then loop back to the Jefferson Memorial (those not interested in this 4-mile loop can go directly to the Jefferson Memorial). After lingering there awhile, those who have seen enough blossoms can return to the Metro station, while the rest of us continue around the Tidal Basin to the FDR Memorial. From there its back to the Smithsonian station via Independence Avenue. Total distance: 1 mile to the Memorial, 4 miles to/from Hains Point, 1 mile from the Jefferson Memorial or 2 miles via the FDR Memorial back to the Metro.
Dogs: Allowed, leashed
Leader: Ken Meyercord
Directions: Take the Orange Line (towards New Carrollton) to the Smithsonian Metro station, or, if coming from the parade, walk across the Mall to the station (avoiding the crush on the Metro).
