Deploying a puppetmaster, from the viewpoint of a first-timer.

I'm on the Puppet bandwagon. It sounds awesome, and I see others using it to do cool stuff. However, while I have a good set of experienced people to learn from, they've all been at this for a while and may have forgotten some of the trials and tribulations of being new to Puppet. I will be performing my first Puppet Master install between now and the Meetup, and then presenting a short how-to, along with examples of where I, as a new user, stumbled, failed, backtracked, and/or otherwise misinterpreted the install documentation. Hopefully, others who are interested in getting started with Puppet can learn from my mistakes, and more experienced Puppeteers can get a refresher on common mistakes to point out to those looking to them for advice.

Meet/Greet at 6:30pm.  Presentation at 7pm.  Questions/answers/discussion after presentation.

Hey, this is a topic that I would really benefit from...Wednesdays just don't work for me. Any notes, etc afterward would be great!

      Hi Deanna,
I have uploaded my notes to Github. The link can be found above on the meetup event page.

Sorry some folks missed. I have uploaded my notes to the following git repo:
Feel free to check them out. One small note...there is a list of references at the top. I would advise *not* going through the full set of resources before reading the notes. In some cases, the resources are "stuff I looked at and didn't find what I was looking for." The resources are referenced in the notes where used.

Sorry to miss it. I got trapped at the hosting center running down a problem tonight. See you all next time.

    Hey All,

Welcome back to SmartBrief HQ! Happy to have everyone back for the 3rd Washington DC Puppet User Group meeting in our offices.

So the process in the lobby of our building is:
    1. When you get in you will need to provide your name to security at the front desk, so they can check you off the list that I will be providing them (it helps if you put your first and last name from your drivers license or other form of government issued ID as your name for your Meetup account).
    2. I'm hoping to have someone in the front lobby who can swipe a keycard for attendees in the elevator so you can get to our floor.
    3. If you arrive after 7:00 pm you will need to contact me so I can come down and let you in (our building locks the doors to everyone without a keycard after 7:00 pm)

Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
