Hey, what location are y'all talking about? I thought Whole Paycheck used compactors everywhere.

So it's thursday night and diving usually happens after midnight, is there a plan? is anything going down?

A couple friends and I went diving tonight in NoVA and got great treasures---including salmon, tons of desserts and even some free insulated bags!

I've never had luck at WF, most of the big name stores use compactors. If you find a WF, it'd be interested in seeing it. Now TJ, that's a pretty regular visit.

Hi Pete I haven't done much diving around here. I was wondering if the Trader Joe's in Springfield had an easy access dumpster.

@Lendsey- I live near you, so you know of any good diving locations?

@Yugant: Are you hosting this event? If so, we need to know if this meeting is a go and if you found out about the dumpster and its accessibility. I only ask because I'll be coming from Alexandria, and don't want to drive an hour if we aren't able to dive.

So any word on if the dumpster is accessible?

    I'd do DC this weekend.

Good question. I've done advocacy work trying to get the DC P Street WFM to donate their end-of-day sandwiches. They were real shit heads -- couldn't care less about food waste. So a large group could provoke them to close up the dumpster -- if indeed the dumpster is accessible. That hasn't been confirmed yet, as far as I know. My experience is that WFM usually uses a compacting dumpster for food waste.

Is this going to be too many people attending to remain "stealthy"?

Hi Lisa! Yes, MM has trash cans in back, on 19th St. Firehook has a dumpster to the left of the store in the alley. A headlight helps. I've dumpstered at MM twice and Firehook about four times. Once I had to wait at Firehook, but that was it. MM had about 15 lbs sandwiches &salads the 1st time, but none the 2nd time, only bread. Everytime, Firehook had lots of bread and cupcakes, etc. Salads once too.
The last time I went was about 3 months ago. Things may have changed since then.

Columbia has TJ's, Mom's, Costco and Wegmans within 5 mins of each other.

Dave, thanks for the update. I assume MM has their dumpster on 19th and Firehook has theirs back in the alley. Any competition?

I wish this were earlier. Midnight is past my bedtime!
Also, fyi, great pickings in DC just north of Dupont Circle in DC after 10 pm: behind Marvelous Market and next to Firehook Bakery. What a goddamn waste!

Sounds fun, is there any movement on when/where? Columbia sound good, since there's also a TJ's there.

Hey all, I think whoever began this has deserted it so someone shoudl set a date. I could be wrong, but I've never known Whole Foods to have accessible dumpsters, especially one in the city. Who's up for a late-night run at some stops in the suburbs in the upcoming weeks?

Whoever is bottomlining this should shoot me an email soon so we can work out details and make sure this goes well. There is no way I could be there but I can help out at least from the internets!

To folks attending try and find places to go that you know have stuff because a lot of people are signed up to go and that means less food for everyone! Map out routes and talk to other folks.

@Rafi: no banquet just dumpstering it sounds like!

Now that I've settled into Baltimore (been here 4 months) I would love to learn where good places are, and any issues/warnings for diving in the Baltimroe area? Can we start a discussion and possibly a meetup?

    March 30, 2012

  • Erin S.

Just started diving, and that one was next on my list. When are you planning? Scoped it out yet?
