UPDATE FOR 6 JULY:
Our trip is fast approaching! :-)
*** If you have not done so please post a message on the board and let us know your expected day/time of arrival.
It is not a bad idea to bring some food and drink essentials for your room, water, assorted beverages, snacks to share, etc. Please also bring some cash as it will come in handy when we are dining together, paying for kayaking, etc, etc.
- We can plan to meet at the Harrison's House Inn's Tiki Bar by the water around 4pm. We can put a message on the board when we (organizers: Gail, Dan and Lisa) get there. We can then provide an orientation and finalize any loose ends for kayaking, etc.
- We can plan to meet at Harrison's House Inn's restaurant outdoor patio between 8-8:30am for breakfast. We will plan on leaving Harrisons NLT 9:45 to head to the Marina to go Kayaking.
- We can then meet back at Harrison's House Inn around the pool after our morning kayak trip for anyone who arrives Saturday afternoon. (Around 12/12:30).
Group Kayaking; 10am Saturday morning:
- We are planning for a two hour nature trail tour on the east side of Tilghman. This trip is for all levels of experience.
***I still need a good head count for this outing so I can let the outfitter know. So please put a message on the board if you want to join us for the morning kayak trip.
Stuff to bring for kayaking: sunscreen, sun hat, water shoes, water or other beverages in a small cooler and maybe a waterproof bag, waterproof camera, etc.
- If you would like a more advanced or longer trip our member Bryan has offered to lead a tour around the island which would take about 5 hours at a casual pace. That trip would also start at 10am at the Tilghman Marina. This tour is 'wind permitting' meaning he won't do the long tour if it is a high wind day.
***Put a message on the board if you are interested in Bryan's kayak tour. And be sure to specify the longer tour.
- Other options for those who prefer not to go kayaking:
*Relax by the water at the Inn, hang by the pool
*Tour around St Michaels, shopping, restaurants, ice cream, etc, etc...
*Absolutely nothing and loving it :)
**** I will post more information later regarding pricing etc. Should be no more than $50 for the two hour kayak trip and less if you share a kayak!
Thank you!! :-)

Join us July 11-13th for a weekend trip to Tighlman Island on the Maryland Eastern Shore! Stay for the weekend - Friday & Saturday night - or just do an overnight trip spending the night only on Sat.
A fairly short, scenic two-hour drive across the Bay Bridge, 11 miles past St Michaels, brings you to the small, authentic Maryland watermen's villiage of TIghlman Island. Located at the southernmost tip of Talbot County, Tilghman Island is a three-mile long waterfront town nestled between the Chesapeake Bay and the Choptank River at the end of a long peninsula and separated from the mainland by Knapps Narrows. A drawbridge provides vehicle access to the island.
The pace of life is refreshingly slow on this off the beaten track island. Tilghman Island is heavy on beautiful scenery and light on crowds. You just might not want to leave! Take a break from your busy DC/Baltimore metro life and enjoy some peace, serenity and tranquility!
So what would you do if you went on this weekend meetup outing? Your options include everything from doing nothing (just kick-back and lounge while enjoying waterfront views) to fun, active pursuits such as leisurely bicycling, scenic kayaking and canoeing outings, boat/sailing tours, sunset cruises, pontoon/wave runner excursions, fishing/crabbing, and golfing. Eating out at the island's restaurants is a treat - they feature fresh, local seafood and produce. And local, waterfront bars offer yummy drinks and beautiful views. Also, an easy breezy 10-minute drive will take you to the picture-perfect historic waterfront town of St. Michaels. The tree-lined streets are filled with an eclectic selection of shops and award-winning restaurants. Check out Phillips Wharf Environmental Center and the Tilghman Waterman’s Museum, which offer the opportunity to learn about the island and Chesapeake Bay lifestyles.
Where would you stay if you went on this weekend getaway? We have reserved a block of rooms WITH A 10% DISCOUNT at the newly renovated, waterfront Harrison House Country Inn. While Harrison House is a casual guesthouse/inn, it underwent a complete renovation in 2011, has great reviews from past guests, and is very reasonably priced - particularly given its waterfront location on the Chesapeake Bay. Onsite, shared amenities include Harrison’s in-ground swimming pool, dock, restaurant (serving the finest in fresh, boat-to-table seafood and locally-sourced farm products), sports bar, and crab deck - the only over-the-water crab deck on the Eastern Shore. Rooms have 32" flat screen TVs, free DirecTV, free Wi-Fi, mini refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer.
If you are interested in a relaxing, fun weekend to a cool, slow-paced waterfront destination that isn't too far away... then this meetup is for you!
If you want to join us on our local weekend getaway to Tighlman Island, here's what you need to do:
1- RSVP on this page to the meetup
2- Find a roommate to share a room if needed - post a comment or message someone.
3- When you are ready to book your room, call Harrison House Country Inn at (410) 886-2121. Tell them you want to book a room under Gail Carter's block of rooms (checking in on 7/11/14). Tell them what kind of room you want, i.e., non-waterfront or waterfront. There are a few non-waterfront rooms for $64.34 per person per night or $128.69 per person for the full weekend (Fri & Sat nights). Most rooms are waterfront and are $89.10 per person per night or $178.20 per person for the full weekend (Fri & Sat nights). Prices are based on double occupancy (multiply by 2 for the cost of your own room), include all taxes, and reflect our group's 10% discount! Limited number of rooms available - first come, first serve.
4- Post a comment on this page to let me know you reserved your room... and who is your roommate if you have one.
Remember, we have a block of rooms for Friday & Saturday night, but you can join us for just Saturday night if you prefer... of course the best option is to enjoy the entire weekend (maybe get off early or take off work on Friday!) to fully relax and recharge on our Tilghman Island getaway!
This is a combined July monthly meetup for the Washington DC Gen X Travel Club and the Baltimore Gen X Travel Club.
More details & carpool coordination as the date approaches... hope you can make it! It's going to be fun! :)
