It's spring! That means it's time for everyone's favorite (free) scavenger hunt/foot race through DC.
For more deets and to register:
When you register, team name is: R Slash DC
Starting location is DuPont Circle on Saturday at 7:00. We'll start meeting up near the fountain at 6:30, and we'll have some sort of homemade sign so that you can find us.
NOTE to first-time players and forgetful return players: last year we covered 5-6 miles on foot. We also got separated. Plan on both happening again this year. Have your cell phone fully charged. Also, it's a good idea to either fill up your SmarTrip Card beforehand, or to buy yourself a Metro day pass.
UPDATES FROM 5/24:
So- what you need to know:
We (as in myself (LB) and the voices in my head, and maybe a few other organizers) will be in Dupont Circle around 6-6:15. We'll have a big poster board with R Slash DC on it. Find us, and once we've got a group together we'll go from there. If you're getting there after 7 (ie- after the race starts), you might be SOL, but reply to this email and I'll try to get back to you.
Things to plan on:
-cool weather. High tomorrow is 70, dark will be cool. Bring a jacket.
-being on your feet. Wear comfortable shoes that you're okay running in. (Don't worry, there's no pressure to run- it's not like a 5k. We accept all forms of out or in shape people.)
-Plan on the group having to split up. 2 years ago I spent 20 minutes running down Pennsylvania Ave to Georgetown by myself in the rain (classiest moment of my life). Have your phone charged. Wouldn't hurt to bring a plastic bag for it too, just in case (though i don't think it's supposed to rain)
-Put money on your SmarTrip card BEFORE the race starts. Metro is allowed, but metro stops are not safe zones. Day passes are okay too but we'll also probably take a bus or two.
-bikes are illegal uses of race transportation.
-you'll have to fill out the waiver here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l3pw7o6ih9lhktc/SurviveDC-Waiver.pdf
There will be copies at the race but if you're inclined to plan ahead, go ahead and do it.
