Survive DC 2013

It's spring! That means it's time for everyone's favorite (free) scavenger hunt/foot race through DC.

For more deets and to register:

When you register, team name is: R Slash DC

Starting location is DuPont Circle on Saturday at 7:00. We'll start meeting up near the fountain at 6:30, and we'll have some sort of homemade sign so that you can find us.

NOTE to first-time players and forgetful return players: last year we covered 5-6 miles on foot. We also got separated. Plan on both happening again this year. Have your cell phone fully charged. Also, it's a good idea to either fill up your SmarTrip Card beforehand, or to buy yourself a Metro day pass.

So- what you need to know:

We (as in myself (LB) and the voices in my head, and maybe a few other organizers) will be in Dupont Circle around 6-6:15. We'll have a big poster board with R Slash DC on it. Find us, and once we've got a group together we'll go from there. If you're getting there after 7 (ie- after the race starts), you might be SOL, but reply to this email and I'll try to get back to you.

Things to plan on:

-cool weather. High tomorrow is 70, dark will be cool. Bring a jacket.

-being on your feet. Wear comfortable shoes that you're okay running in. (Don't worry, there's no pressure to run- it's not like a 5k. We accept all forms of out or in shape people.)

-Plan on the group having to split up. 2 years ago I spent 20 minutes running down Pennsylvania Ave to Georgetown by myself in the rain (classiest moment of my life). Have your phone charged. Wouldn't hurt to bring a plastic bag for it too, just in case (though i don't think it's supposed to rain)

-Put money on your SmarTrip card BEFORE the race starts. Metro is allowed, but metro stops are not safe zones. Day passes are okay too but we'll also probably take a bus or two.

-bikes are illegal uses of race transportation.

-you'll have to fill out the waiver here:

There will be copies at the race but if you're inclined to plan ahead, go ahead and do it.

It was a lot of fun, great people too! Made it to 3 checkpoints with Chuck, but too many chasers camping out near checkpoint 3. Did not end well.

That was awesome. I only made it to two checkpoints, but the event was very well run and I met a lot of cool people.

We're near a tree on the Southside of the Dupont Circle fountain. Look for the green poster

My guest and I will be there to see it start but won't really be able to participate

  • Glen

Gonna RSVP "yes" but I can't do more than be there to watch the start, as I'll have a guest who's not physically fit for this

How far does this chase run?

Ugh, formatting suck. Anyway, it's super fun and one of the best times i've had in DC, but definitely not going to be like a 5k or other typical race, if that makes sense

once you're in, you never stop running.

Best of luck to all of you, and I hope at least two of you win.
Being that Saturday is also Towel Day, I'll accept you running with a towel as immunity should we run into each other and I try to steal your shit.

Also, who are all of you people? I leave meetups for 2 years and come back to one million strangers.

    Super excited
Costume ideas: sonic the hedgehog cosplay, or maybe just wearing all black and dissapear into the night

    May 21, 2013

  • Ned B.

Costume ideas, anyone? Last year we scored some paper hats from Krispy Kreme, but lost them before the first checkpoint. :-/

Is this an actual race, ie with running? I'm a bit crippled and can't move faster than a quick stride...

    May 9, 2013

    • Chip V.

Since it's a city wide game of tag, yes running is involved
