Shooting at the NRA Range

So a lot of you have expressed an interest in shooting so here it is. We will be doing a shooting event at the NRA range in fairfax for those who want to join.

Costs are:
$12.00 per hour of range time
$10 or so for a box of 20 rounds

I will be opening up use of my rifle, and there are a few others who will bring hand guns. This should be fun but is dangerous so any fucking around will not be tolerated. The range is not metro accessible but there should be enough people that are willing to give rides from the Vienna station.

Before I was clueless. Now, with the help of Sohrab and other Redditors, I can confidently say that I will likely be able to survive a zombie Apocalypse. Thanks, Reddit!

I'll be the dude in the Red Sox hat w/ a desert jacket on & orange backpack.

If anyone has a magazine for a 10/22 please bring it! I can't find mine right now for some reason, bringing the rifle..will repay the favor in ammo

To aid in identification since I haven't been to any meetups: I am Asian and I have the longest hair you've ever seen. Ever.

Anyone else need rides from Vienna?

Wow we have a lot of people going. I'd like to go but I don't think we could get enough lanes. Can we be sure that everyone gets enough range time? To whoever asked earlier I have 800 rds of 7.62x54r for a mosin, do they allow steel core? I have 4 rifles I can bring. Mossberg 580 -20g, marlin 22, ar15, and my mosin.

http://www.silvereaglegroup.com/ <-- this place has Gun rentals and even a Scenario Room.

The range does not have rentals but I think they sell ammo, so that might take care of the .380. I'll bring the 556, but be forewarned it is an early model from the first year and has exhibited some cycling problems. I should send it in for service but I'm lazy...

Trey, can you bring the 556? I've been wanting to try one since they came out. I'll bring some .223 rounds

I'm bringing 3 (2 handguns, 1 rifle) and don't mind sharing them out between lanes. If anyone can find some .380 ammo and bring it that would be kinda helpful though, I'm pretty low on rounds for that one.

Legitimate concern. I for one am coming and do not have a firearm. Of course I'd be willing to rent something if they have any rentals..

I'm wondering and kind of concerned about people/firearm ratio. I've only seens a few firearms listed in the responses. We could have a lot of people standing around doing nothing.

Hey Sohrab. It turns out I won't need a ride. See you Saturday!

    December 8, 2010

  • sohrab

Ok, who here needs a ride and who can give a few people a ride from the Vienna station

    December 8, 2010

  • Deric

Is there anyone that would be willing to pick me up from the Vienna stop? I have no car and so it's the only way I would make it.

    December 7, 2010

  • Trey

Sweet. I guess I'll finally RSVP to this. There's going to be a ton of people, looks like. Chances are slim we'll all be in a block of lanes together.

Does anyone know if they rent guns there? All mine are half a country away :(

    December 2, 2010

I was planning on going there this week and was told the whole place has been reserved till January by some local agency, has any one called to confirm that we can go that day?

The fees are per person. $14 for the lane and $12 for each additional person. The have ear and eye protection for free there.

I think just ID should be fine. You should read my two posts below, as well.

n00b here. I've never been shooting. What should I bring? Is my ID fine? Shouldn't I bring something to prove that I'm not a homocidal maniac? or just retarded? (I'm sort of joking, but I'm curious as to what I should bring really.)

    Recommended reading if you're a novice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_safety

Recommended clothing: long sleeve shirt and a baseball cap (you never know where hot brass will go). The range has ear protection available free to use but I don't know about eye protection. If you don't wear glasses, might want to get shooting glasses/goggles.

Pretty sure the range time is calculated per lane, but they may have an additional charge for additional folks in a lane.

Cool, I was wondering about that (used to going to Blue Ridge). Thanks for the heads up!

One thing to remember is that if you've never been to the range, there's a short test you have to take to get a badge. The answers are in the test packet, from what I remember (it's like an open-book test).

    Excellent! Thanks John!

Nick - Check http://www.ammoengine.com/ for the best prices you can find online. One of the guys from /r/guns put it together and I've been really impressed

Unless they've changed the rules in the last year or so, bringing your own ammo is fine.

    November 28, 2010
