One of our members (Veronica) had a great suggestion for a spring meetup: heading out to Point of Rocks, Maryland, from there hiking/walking along the C&O Canal to Harper's Ferry, and then staying an evening in Harper's Ferry in our very own "albergue" (one of Hostelling International's properties). Call it a mini-Camino, DC-style! Some key details:
1) The walk from Point of Rocks to Harper's Ferry is, according to lovely Google maps, 13.6 miles. 2) More information on the albergue can be found at http://www.hiusa.org/maryland/knoxville/harpers-ferry. If we get enough interest, we'd hope to rent out the whole facility for our group for the evening.
2) We discussed leaving cars in both Point of Rocks and in Harper's Ferry, so that folks could have the option of heading home after morning breakfast, or taking a second day to walk back to Point of Rocks and head home from there. Choices abound. We tentatively picked a weekend in mid-May as a good time to go. Knowing that plans may well change, can folks nonetheless let me know if they might be interested in attending? I can then see about booking space and coordinating transportation options. Thanks!
