definitely interested if you still have an open spot at the table. was wondering if it was still at game parlor? its been a while sense i have played KoK. but i am familiar with most of 3.5 in a general over all view of the mechanics and builds. love DM prerogative though helps keep things to where the DM needs it. just let me know. easy way to reach me is [masked]

Look forward to seeing you first game Barry. Kalamar as a setting has a bit of an olde school feel to it. I think you will like it.
What books will and won't be allowed?

Hmm I don't know. That is rather restrictive and locks out my favorite classes and races.

And I know nothing of pathfinder. only 3.0/3.5.
Classes I like:
"Courtier" from Rokugan Campaign. This class specializes in general politics and manipulation. Doesn't work well in dungeons. But in a city can do amazing stuff. If the game world has any kind of political system this class fits in.
"Master" from Dragonlance War of the Lance. This class is the specialization of the four service skills. Craft, Knowledge, Perform, Profession. The Legendary Craftsman, the Sage of Knowledge, the Celebrity Performer, or the Master Merchant. This is the class to cover that. It fits into any world with an economy.
"Marshal" from Miniatures Handbook. This is a class for leading others. It specializes in giving group bonuses. It fits where ever there are armies being lead.
Complete Series HexBlade and Warlock are also fun.
Races I like:Any race can be modified with the right template to get closer to what you like without breaking the game. It mere a question of balancing effective levels without breaking your character.
But the Race I most wish to play is one I never had the chance to play.Kitsune from the book Kitsunemori.
The other races I like are very campaign specific so completely unacceptable.Like Eberron Shifter.
Generally i don't mind going human if I can apply a minor template to push it where i like.
I have read some of the Kalamar books. Not in detail as the campaign seemed a bit rushed together.
I am guessing by merchant you mean the Alliance Merchant Class. This is not a very thought out prestige class. I would put this class along side the Dragonlance Noble Class. Both are very specific and restricting. I prefer classes that are open and adaptable to campaigns. Like most of the Classes in the PHB is open and adaptable in some means.Noble locks you in story wise as nobility and the class is not adaptable. Courtiers on the other hand can be from any tier of society. It is a class for political maneuvering. Best part is it is a well designed class. It is changeable to suit the flow of the campaign.
I played enough games to know that no matter how well you plan out your character before hand it will always change based on the campaign and the party.

Basirian Dancer is like a Bard specialized in Dance. It is an interesting class and could be fun with the right race. If mixed with Master it could be even more interesting.
For Shifter I know. I said as much in my prior post. Kitsune was a hope but is understandable. You suggested Half Satyr, maybe. But if you suggest Half Satyr what about the other side of that coin with Half Nymph?
A Human or Grey Elf Half Nymph multi-classing Basiran Dancer with a few levels of Master primary focused on Perform (Dance) could make for an interesting character. If the leadership feat is allowed, a dance troupe could be made. A dabbling into Marshal to help coordinate them would be intriguing.
In case you don't know the Half Nymph Template. It was released in Dragon Magazine Issue 313 Page 95.
Half Nymph Template
Always beautiful, vibrant, & graceful.
Dex +2 Int +2 Wis +2 Cha +4
Gain Low-Light Vision.
Considered a Fey when targeted with Enchantments, trying to activate Fey-specific magic items, etc.
Awesome Beauty – any Humanoid within 30’ who looks at the Half-Nymph is Shaken (WillNeg, DC is Charisma-based) for 1 minute. Continued looking results in additional saves, the failure of which resets the duration. The Half-Nymph can suppress or resume this ability as a Free Action. This is a [mind][fear] effect
Level Adjustment +2
Probably Kalamar Players Guide and some of the builder books on a case by case basis. I took a look at the 3.0 version of Basirian Dancer, and it seemed balanced.
The half-Nymph template is a bit too much out there for me. Any of the Kalamar Players Guide races are cool.
Mike I love playing 3.5e. It is one of my favorite games. I have read so many books.

John that is about as tame as i get with characters. tehe. If this is to much for you you would like freak at my more hard core characters. tehe
From a mechanics perspective, the big issue for me are class features that break the core rules of the game. Examples would be: moving and getting a full attack action, swift and immediate actions, ect. That Nymph racial ability is way too powerful.
That ability is pretty weak when you look at most templates or races with more than 1 effective level.. Half dragon is way more powerful than that and it is in a core book.
All shaken does is impose a -2 penalty on rolls. There are many ways to bypass this. Make the save. Take feats including ones in players guide to make one immune. There are class abilities to make one immune. It Both a mind and fear effect. Plenty of ways to become resistant or immune to either of those.
Only a amateur DM would consider this to powerful and not be able to handle it.This group may not be a good choice for me.
Even from the list you gave there are lots of classes even ones in kalamar that gives those abilities. So if you cant handle them then you can't play kalamar. Or do you plan to deny players their own class abilities?
You are correct, this will not be the group for you.

I will be DMing. Here are some details:
1) 3.5e D&D2) 28 point character build3) Starts at 1st level.4) Low magic. Arcane casters will have to work at building their spell book/known spells.5) DM retains right to tweak/alter rules before sessions to ensure play balance. 6) No PVP.7) We are playing a trio of modules starting with "The Root of all Evil"
Sorry Mike...maybe next time.
Right now I'm fairly booked. I have a PF game every other Sunday and I run a supers game every other Saturday. One weekend day is spent with my wife so my time is pretty much taken right now.
