Hey Cecil, I've got a couple queries for you if you don't mind emailing me

That's great, Cecil! I've got extra papers to grade the next two weeks and now preparations to make for going out of town on a job interview, so I appreciate the time off. I haven't gotten all the details of the interview yet, but based on what I've learned so far I probably won't be able to play on Tuesday, April 17th either. Thanks for all your hard work, Cecil, and thanks Sam for setting up the website! :-)
Yes, tonight is off. I just completed a project last night, so I can take a couple of days to relax and focus on the campaign. Also, Sam set up a website for us. I'll take a look at that in a couple of hours and get back to everyone about it
We're taking tonight off, right?
Great group of guys. Diverse play styles. Looking forward to the next session.

Williamson it is than. Right between TGIFridays and Backyard Grill. Obviously I got delayed a bit but I'm leaving as soon as I shut down the computer.

Williamson is WAY faster than Sudley...lol. No bobbing and weaving necessary.
Is Williamson faster than Sudley then? I've come down a few times at lunch hour and Sudley pretty well pokes along unless you can dart and weave but Williamson looks like it doesn't have enough lanes for darting and weaving. :-D
Oh...Williamson is the second light south of 66...right between TGIFridays and Backyard Grill.
David...sides streets are faster, but 28 is a bitch. Taking 66 to Sudley (234) will make that part of the journey easier...lots of traffic, but flowing quickly instead of stop and go. I always take a left on Williamson off of 234. That will lead you around to Lomond where you'll take another left. Ashland is then the next right.
I have classes Monday and Wednesday night as well. Tuesday night is really the only night that works well for me right now.
I teach my online seminars Wednesday nights and have my office hours then too, so Wednesday's out for me. Actually, Sam, if you transfered to Kaplan Online you not only wouldn't have to commute to class, but you'd be able to be in the seminar during a D&D session! :-D
Anyway, Monday night are the best for me, but I could also do Sunday or Thursday nights.
Yes. I have class monday and wednesday night until 9pm
I'm curious for the long-term if people are wedded to Tuesday nights or if Monday nights would work. At the online university where I teach the week ends on Tuesday nights (don't ask me why!) so that I have most of my weekly grading Tuesday nights and early Wednesday mornings.
Britt, which do you think is faster at 6:30 PM, coming down 28 from Centerville to Yorkshire to Amherest to Lombard to Ashland, or taking 66 to Sudley to 234? Google is telling me to take 28, but I'm thinking with all those twists and turns through residential streets in Manassas, it's probably faster, to go down Sudley, although during rush traffic maybe the side streets are faster. What do you think?
Yes, I've had bad experiences with people playing evil characters, whether they call them evil or pretend they're neutral. :-D
Oh, when I said roll 4d6 I meant roll 4d6 and drop the lowest. :-)
As for alignment, I prefer good. Neutral tends to be played by most players as an excuse to do evil. Evil makes for a bade party dynamic. Period. Not that I won't play evil...I just recognize that it never ends well. CG has always been my favorite alignment. Live and let live.
For stats in my groups, we roll 4d6 drop the low, reroll 1's once. We also reroll 1's for HP. I've seen/used all kinds of methods for stats over the years. I don't like point buying systems for stats simply because I love random. I'm sure we'll come to a concensus on stats...but we'll need a GM first, since that's normally their call to make...lol
I won't know until I decide on what kind of character I'll be playing.
I'm a fan of chaotic good or chaotic neutral myself. Lawful characters are just too fun to mess with.
I usually just use 4d6 rolled 6 times, although as DM I allow the players to reroll any 1 and most of the time a 2 as well. I mean if the roll has two sixs and a five I probably won't allow the reroll of the 2, unless the character's earlier scores aren't that hot. :-)
So what alignments do people like to play? I tend prefer chaotic good, neutral good and lawful good, in that order. :-)
Can't wait guys. I'll bring my books and dice. Any interest in discussing before we get there what sort of method we're using for ability scores?

I of course like Springfield as I live pretty close to there but am mobile and can drive to Manassas to get this party started. So if Manassas gets us all there lets go for it. Maybe we go to 2 groups at some point who knows. Vote Manassas for this time.
Driving all the way to manassas is a bit aggravating, but nothing to really gripe over. my only concern is that since i work in the service industry my work schedule is never definite. I usually get off before 6, but sometimes things come up. If this does end up happening I'll post a comment, but just saying ahead of time that there might be a small possibility that I'd have to show up a little late with the drive and such
8059 Ashland Ave. Manassas, VA 20109. Apartment 12...on the third floor. There are visitor slots in the lot, but street parking might be easier (and closer). If we end up split vote, then I don't know what to say...lol
How about this then, my vote is for Manassas (still willing to host if outvoted)--that should break the tie. Maybe we can rotate locations in the future. Or, if we can generate a little more interest, we can break into two groups. But for right now, let's just get things started.
Currently at 2 to 2 with 6 attending. I'm really hoping we don't split ballot this sucker
Here in Centerville I'm practically in Manassass already, but Springfield is 23 miles away.
I'm going to say springfield with the hope that I-95 isn't going to shaft me for being so bold as to say I can drive on it after 5pm on a weekday.
I vote Springfield
I'm in an apartment...plenty of on street parking right next to my building...but as I said, willing to try Springfield. How about a vote so we can draw a concensus?
I've got a "mandatory fun" thing I need to go to tonight, so I'll be out until about 9:30 or 10. I can support whatever the group decides to do. If at my place, I will send out directions either late tonight or tomorrow (please send me an email at solomoncecil (at) yahoo (dot) com.
Any objections to Cecil's? The east west distribution (and yes, I am estimating here) favors his townhome barely.
It looks like I am closer to Snake and Burt, but other than that, everyone will be coming from all over. Not much chance of carpooling for this group. Parking will definitely be an issue for the group. I'm in a townhouse--I have one extra space, after that people will be vying for a parking space on the road. It's not a significant walk, but it is something to be considered.
I am pretty mobile. Will make it.
I live in Alexandria, so Springfield would be preferable for me. And 3.5 is great.
Hey James. Sorry you can't make it.
So. . . 3.5 seems to be the consensus.(barring objection??)
I have no true preference between Manassas and Springfield. They're essentially equidistant for me. Eric is in Fairfax Station, David's in Centreville, I'm in Stafford Cecil's in Springfield and Britt's in Manassas. We do kind of need to decide tonight.
As far as DMing, I could do it, but honestly I'm pretty bad at it.
Guys - it's looking too far for me to make by 7. I work in DC until at least 6. I'm going to bow out. Have fun.
As long as everyone else is down.
Britt, I have no problems coming your direction either. Like you, I have a slew of resources but I can host a game on another evening (it saves me from having to do some serious housecleaning before tomorrow)
I live in Manassas and regular host a game with 7 players...no family issues as I live alone...and I have every 3E and 3.5 book on my bookshelf...lol. I can do Springfield, but probably not on a regular basis.
I would be happy to play at Cecil's I do not mind walking at all.
My place is available, but I'm in Springfield. The only issue is that parking is not that great here, and I'm not all that close to any metro lines
seems like the place will need to be changed due to family issues
I'm interested in finding a good RPG group, so I figured that I would give this one a try. I have played for years, but normally GM. I'm happy to either play or GM. I'm willing to play any system/version/edition the group chooses to go with (my personal vote would also be for 3.5)
Getting together and buiilding characters as a group (and choosing a GM) sounds like a great first game. It will give us all a chance to get to know one another as players before we're all in character. I'll be coming in from Manassas.
