Announcing a new Meetup for The Northern Virginia Dungeons & Dragons/RPG Meetup Group!
What: May RPGala
When: May 16,[masked]:00 PM
Where: West End Library, Foggy Bottom
Meetup Description: Come out for a fun Saturday afternoon of gaming!
RSVP Here: May RPGala
Hello everyone, this Saturday is the May RPGala! It is at our usual spot, the West End Library in Foggy Bottom. We've had a ton of new members recently (Welcome Cultists! Er... Gamers!) so here's the scoop:
The games being run are Serenity(Firefly), Shadowrun, D&D3.5, Mutant City Blues, and the always popular, ever present GURPS Goblin series and Fables. More detailed descriptions are below.
Be there at 12pm. There is a pay to park garage across the street from the library on 24th street. If you think you are going to find free street parking, best of luck to you. Taking the metro to Foggy Bottom and walking up 3 or 4 blocks to the library is probably easiest. When you enter the library, you will be facing the librarian's desk. Turn left and walk back to the check-out desk. To the right of the check out desk is a door (the first door) and steps leading up. Go up the steps and you will come out to a room that looks part children's play area, part book storage. You have arrived.
Attendance: Only RSVP YES if you are ABSOLUTELY attending barring a catastrophic emergency. If something comes up and you can't make it, either change your RSVP to NO or email me. No-Shows will be booted from the group.
Games: Below are the games being run. There are no assigned seats, no spots to reserve. Simply indicate your top 3 choices and then its first come, first serve.
Bring your own food this time. With a new baby I don't have the time to coordinate and arrange for food this month.
Serenity/GM-Dave/Type-One Shot/Up to 9 players
Take the role of a Serenity crew member from the Firefly cast in another painfully funny episode of tragicomedy in the Future Wild West. When Serenity runs across an abandoned cargo pod floating in space, what will the crew find inside?
Players will take the roles of the Firefly Crew from the series in a pre-Miranda caper. Up to 9 players could play, with the PCs matched to players in the following manner:
First 4 players: Choice of
Captain Mal Reynolds
Next 1-5 players choice of:
Bring your dialect, your wit, your gung ho and your Whedonisms!
See you there!
D&D v3.5/GM-John/Type-One Shot/Up to 8 Players
'Money Doesn't Grow On Trees'
Once upon a time, a group of adventurers went on an apparently-minor quest on behalf of the Triple Goddess... Find out why "high fantasy" doesn't have to mean "high-level."
Additional Comments: An adventure for character levels 1-10 (APL 3-7). Pre-generated characters are available, or contact the Gamemaster ([address removed])if you want to create or bring your own (low-level) character.
Mutant City Blues/GM-Allan/Type-One Shot/Up to 5 Players
In the criminal justice system, mutant-power based offenses are considered especially heinous. In Washington, DC, the dedicated detectives who investigate these strange felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Heightened Crimes Investigation Unit. These are your stories.
GURPS FANTASY/GM-Brian/Type-One Shot/Up to 6 Players
Secrets of Goblin Madness!
The party of bold adventures have retrieved the holy artifact. Now the temple prepares to launch their vengeance upon the goblin tribes. But a secret changes everything. Discover why the goblin war chiefs risked a decade long peace to stage the raid. And how did the goblins succeed in the first place? Could there be a traitor? Rejoin our heroes for another Saturday afternoon of Goblin Madness!
This is a GURPS game. Goblin Madness is an episodic game that uses pre-generated characters. While no GURPS experience is necessary to play this game, players who sign up for this should be experienced with at least one other role playing game system
Shadowrun 4th Ed./GM-Joe/Type-One Shot/Up to 6 Players
Description pending but Joe has run Traveller, Deadlands, and Warhammer Fantasy in the past all to good reviews.
Fables/GM-Will/Type-One Shot/Up to 6 Players
Did you ever feel as if your gamemaster was trying to shove you in a box? Do you feel as if creativity is sometimes penalized when it should be rewarded?
If so, you might enjoy a rules-lite, story-heavy, character-driven game inspired by the best FUDGE and Spirit of the Century. In this game, players will be presented with a baseline scenario and then players will be asked to supply a few simple story elements. Only the GM will know these story elements and he will make every effort to work them into the game. Dream up something wild!
You'll be able to go any direction you want and do anything you want. I can guarantee that the game will not require you to read or learn a new set of rules. The game will involve simple mechanics and easy to understand concepts. The game will hinge on your ability to overcome the odds using your character's unique abilities and strengths.
Super easy to learn with quick and clean rules, Fables is definitely the game for people who want to get right to the roleplaying and not bogged down in rules. Will always has something new and grand cooked up and I can personally attest it's a lot of fun.
