Warm Water Channel
If you like boarding/skiing on warm flat water, then read on. We are going to ski the San Gabriel River flood control channel on the LA-OC county line, freeway close to almost everybody. The conditions are usually good and sometimes near perfect. We leave the launch ramp about noon and start boarding about 1pm. We stay until everyone is too tired to go again, or darkness threatens. For most folks this is two to four pulls. Here is a link to some pictures we took a few years ago: http://www.nationalpayments.com/boating/SGR-pics.htm
To make this trip work I need at least 5 people (including myself) and at least one boat driver so I can ski. I usually cut off at seven people skiing/boarding so everyone can get plenty of water time. If space allows, additional non boarders can ride along and enjoy the good times. For the logistics of this meetup to work well, everyone who signs up must show up where and when they say. I will email maps and phone numbers to participants.
We are going to a flood control channel and some are worried about water quality. A very large amount of new water is circulated from Long Beach onto the channel by 5 power plants, so water quality appears to be about the same as Alamitos Bay. I have been going there for 15 years, without any problems. Consider this information before signing up, so there's no regrets. Full disclosure is now complete.
I bring life vests and boards and a ski for everyone to use (no boots over men's size 10, but do have foot pads w/straps). You are also welcome to bring you own ski or board. If in doubt about equipment, be sure to ask before I leave home so I can bring what you need.
This meetup is posted on multiple sites, so whoever signs up first gets priority. If too many people sign up at once or I need a driver for me, I may have to move someone to the wait list. There is a $20 contribution for gas, beverages, goodies, and launch fees. I will confirm with participants Saturday evening. Pay at the meetup.
Be prepared to have a really great and very memorable time.
