Open House London celebrates all that is best about the capital’s buildings, places and neighbourhoods. Every September, it gives a unique opportunity to get out and under the skin of London’s amazing architecture, with over 700 buildings of all kinds opening their doors to everyone – all for free.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE A TRAVELCARD WHICH COVERS ZONES 1 AND 2 AT A MINIMUM (OR OYSTER PAY AS YOU GO) AS THE DAY WILL INVOLVE SEVERAL TRAIN/BUS JOURNEYS WITHIN THESE ZONES.
NOTE THAT DUE TO ENGINEERING WORKS, THERE ARE UNFORTUNATELY NO DIRECT TRAINS BETWEEN WATFORD JUNCTION/SHEPHERDS BUSH/CLAPHAM JUNCTION ON THE 22ND. FROM WATFORD JUNCTION, YOU CAN EITHER TRAVEL ON LONDON MIDLAND AND THEN TUBE VIA EUSTON OR ON LONDON OVERGROUND VIA WILLESDEN JUNCTION.

HIDDEN HOUSE - 39 Russell Garden Mews, W14 8EU
A new build 2600 sq ft mews house as featured in Grand Designs. Four floors with a large basement living space and night club dance floor wrapped around a courtyard with a pond and waterfall. The house achieved BREEAM Excellent rating. Sustainable features include air source heat pump, photovoltaics, super-insulation and water recycling.
ROCA LONDON GALLERY - Station Court, Townmead Road, SW6 2PY
A space inspired by the various phases or states of water, offering a unique visual and interactive experience with Roca, the leading global bathroom brand.
Around lunchtime, we'll be hot-footing it across London to the City where, during the afternoon we'll be attempting to visit the following buildings:
GUILDHALL - Gresham Street, EC2V 7HH
The City's seat of municipal government since 12C. Grade I listed, rare example of Medieval civic architecture with post-war extensions and rebuilding. Access to the Great Hall.
GUILDHALL ART GALLERY/ROMAN AMPHITHEATRE - Guildhall Yard, EC2V 5AE
Purpose built art gallery housing City of London's art collection, built over remains of London's 2C Roman amphitheatre. Access to the Art Gallery and Roman Amphitheatre.
PIPERS CITY OF LONDON MODEL - City of London's Marketing Suite, EC2V 5AR
An overview of the latest developments and architecture in the City of London via the interactive 1:500 scale Piper model that shows the future skyline with all of the proposed new towers.
If time allows in the middle of the day, en route from Imperial Wharf to the City, we may also try and fit in one or two of the following buildings:
BATTERSEA POWER STATION - Battersea, SW8 5BN
Hosting site visits as part of Open House for the first time and the last opportunity to see one of London's most iconic buildings before it undergoes a vibrant redevelopment across the full 38 acre site.
FOREIGN & COMMONWEALTH OFFICE - King Charles Street, SW1A 2AH
Grade I listed Victorian government office buildings. Former India Office includes the magnificently decorated Durbar Court.
WESTMINSTER HALL - House of Commons, SW1A 0AA
One of the finest and largest Medieval halls in Europe with a magnificent hammerbeam ceiling. Work began in 1097.
PETER JONES - Sloane Square, SW1W 8EL
Grade II* listed building, with recently completed 5-year renovation programme involving complex mix of new build and restoration. Britain's first ever curtain walling and various features listed between 1969-71 such as spiral staircase. Sloane Room has one of best views over Chelsea and beyond. Tours available, including some normally accessible areas.
