Not sure what all there is to do there, as I've never been. But it's close by and I'll have a chance to recon it soon, and put out some ideas for a day trip.

At first I was worried that this wouldn't be much of a hike. Wow, I was wrong. My legs are still burning from the workout. Thanks Jim for making this such a fun hike. It was great meeting so many new and especially nice people.

Another great hiking trip planned by Jim. Had a awesome time, meeting new folks and making new friends. Looking forward to the next trip. Jim makes it so easy, with his well thought out plans. Chimney Rock is a must see for people loving the outdoors. Stunning distance views. No wonder this location is the place they film movies. Great carpooling group!
I was worried about the short trails beforehand, but the stairs more than made up for a good workout today. Enjoyed the views at the top. Great group to carpool, hike, and break garlic bread with at La Strada. Jim, thanks for making all of this happen today. Looking forward to the next meetup with the group.

Lots of smiles, lots of laughs, lots of steps, lots of sweat. A terrific day with some pretty cool people. Thanks for leading Jim and enjoy your full moon kayak adventure tonight.
Beautiful Day at Chimney Rock we enjoyed panoramic views, beautiful waterfall, amazing tunnel with elevator inside the mountain, and the scenic lake lure. Nice group, good company we enjoyed our day trip to this beautiful park.

Hari we are so very glad you didn't fall off a cliff! :-)
Perfect Day. I'd forgotten how charming the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area is. Also a great group of people. And, with our fearless leader, Jim, how could we lose?
Had an awesome time!
What an excellent day. Chimney Rock is just too awesome for words with all the rocks and views. It was a bit loud and crowded but that is to be expected here during the summer. There were more stairs at this Park than any other I have visited but it's worth it. Great fun and great company and once again Jim thank you for all you do and great job. La Strada was excellent as well. I was able to salvage the photos I took before the poor camera took a hard fall and will download them.
A good time was had by all.
Gim,Good Morning ,we are running late by 15 mins .If you guys can wait for us that would be great .Thanks .
Hari... in case you don't get Jim's note on your car we are all heading to La Strada at 2693 Memorial Hwy, Lake Lure, NC 28746

Sounds great Jim. Thanks for all the planning.
been there twice, the small town below the Rock has lots of cute stores, places to eat along a running brook ..... have Fun... I have other plans with another meetup group for camping and kayaking.
I do not need to work that weekend so I am planning to see you all at Stonecrest at 8am
Here's some more details on our meet up. I expect we will arrive at the park entrance a little after 10:00. A few hundred yards past the ticket plaza is a large gravel parking lot on the left. We will wait there until everyone has paid and are assembled. From there we will take the Four Seasons Trail (.6 of a mile, moderate to strenuous) up to the Hickory Nut Falls Trail. Turning right we'll follow the Hickory Nut Falls Trail about a half a mile over fairly flat terrain to the base of the falls. After visiting the falls and the pools at the bottom, we'll backtrack 3/4 of a mile and climb some stairs to the gift shop and the cave. We'll take a few moments to explore the cave (it's very small), then ride the elevator (those with pets must take a trail with many stairs) to the top of the Chimney. Up there we'll take the Skyline Trail (.7 miles, moderate to strenuous) which meanders about the top of the mountain. From there it's all downhill back to the the parking lot!

I did a recon of the park today, and here are my notes: There is an admission charge of $15 per person (NOT per car, per PERSON), which is unusual for a state park but that's the way it is. There are several trails in the park, most of them fairly short, but there is a way to string them together to get a good day's hike and hit all the sights, including the pools at the base of the falls, the cave, and the chimney itself (and several other prominent points). There are good facilities in the park as well, and a restaurant. And the town of Lake Lure right outside the park gates, with its many shops, cafes, and restaurants, is picturesque and worth a visit.

I've been to the area before and it's lovely! The fee is to supplement the maintenance of the facilities- like you said..it's really nice. I'm excited to meet everyone and will be driving. Do we meet at Target at 8 or is the hike starting at 8?
We meet at the Target at 8:00, load up the carpoolers, and proceed in caravan to the park, arriving shortly after 10:00.
As usual, I'll have room for three.

I've already got three now, but I'm sure there will be room enough with someone. Looks like there will be several people driving.
This will be my first time out with the Waxhaw group. I would like to car pool from Stonecrest Target if there is still room available or if you can include me on the standby list. Otherwise I can accommodate two in my car if we need an additional vehicle.
Make sure you guys check out the website for discount prices for seniors, AAA members, REI members, or if your birthday is the day of the hike. They will give a give $2 discount on the admission price. FYI.
Jim can I carpool with you?
Sure, you will be my third passenger (Hari and Janet are the others).
Would like to carpool and will pay for gas.
