With Laughter Yoga, hilarity brings clarity! Like physical yoga, breath and presence is of the essence. But, in Laughter Yoga our exercises are about movement rather than postures. And, our breath and movement are fueled by laughter!
My name is Tommy Westerfield, and I am a Certified Laughter Yoga Instructor. I received my training at the American School of Laughter Yoga in Los Angeles in 2009. What I love about Laughter Yoga is you don't need to be happy, or have a sense of humor, or even have a reason to laugh. Instead, you are invited to laugh for no other reason than laughter itself!
You will discover that fake laughter soon becomes real laughter, but the great thing is the benefits of fake laughter and real laughter are exactly the same. More joy, less stress, greater perspective, opening up of the diaphram so you feel the flow of breath, burning of calories, increased levels of endorphins (the body's natural painkiller), increased blood supply, renewed energy are some of the responses people have had to Laughter Yoga.
For myself, one of the gifts of Laughter Yoga is that it has created room in my life to accept all things, no matter what they are, and to know that there is also an eternal space for laughter to be present. The whole rich tapestry of life, no matter how difficult or painful, is easier to embrace when I allow laughter to exist along with it.
All ages, sizes, shapes, fitness levels are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Our sessions are usually an hour, sometimes a little longer. They are free, although any donation to help pay for the space rental and advertising is always welcome. All that is required is just your willingness to laugh! Wear comfortable loose clothing, bring a yoga mat or large towel, and some water.
