Richard J. Lawrence (nickname Dick) I would like to suggest you give this name section a smaller limit and the following section a greater limit as I had more to say about the songs that I like to play. And how many piano players needs 800 characters to write their name?? :o)
Old time Folks Songs; Popular MOR song from the 30s through the 70s (such as "Its Just An Old Shanty In Old Shanty Town", "Ebb Tide", "Stardust", "As time goes by", and "I left my heart in SF"; Cowboy Songs (like "South of the Border", "San Antonio Rose", and "In My Adobe Hacienda"), and Old Country & Western (and some modern Western such as those done by Kenny Rogers or Anne Murray); Some of the Songs of Johnny Cash, Some Beatles tunes, Songs from Broadway Musicals like "Brigadoon, Camalot, Sound of Music, and Phantom of the Opera"; Patriotoc Songs and some Marches, I especially like songs with rich and unique chord structure, and song that I wrote myself. I hope I can find time to meet with you. I cannot sight read, but can read and write music, I have memorized some written music, but most of my playing is simply playing chords with the left hand and single note melody with the right hand. Recently I have been making an effort to play chords with melody on top with my right.
I taught myself to play the piano by ear when I was a child. I have never taken it very seriously until lately because I have been more into acoustic guitar. Due to arthritis in the middle & small finger of my left hand I am switching to piano.
Great idea!! You get to hear other people's techniques. And if give you an incentive to practice so that you can play something well for others to enjoy.
