The Mayor’s St Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival will take place on Sunday 17 March 2013.
Set to be one of London's liveliest celebrations of the year, over 100,000 people attended last year's event.
The day kicks off with a spectacular parade of colourful marching bands, floats, costumed characters and street theatre groups.
The parade leaves Piccadilly at noon and follows a route along; lower Regents Street,Pall Mall and finishes in Trafalgar Square.
The parade leaves the top of Piccadilly by Green Park at noon.
Watch out for the puca, a giant inflatable dragon, which is being brought over by award winning artists Bui Bolg. At over 36 metres long and eight metres high, the brightly coloured puca will be an incredible spectacle as it winds its way through the streets of central London.
Also see the wonderful floats from Irish County Associations, marching bands from across the UK, sports clubs and Irish Dancing schools.
The event continues with a festival on Trafalgar Square with a food market, children's area and an afternoon of top Irish comedy.
This fantastic day out is a great way to experience all things Irish from food and dance to crafts, culture, music and much more.
This is a great event to capture some street photography candid shots of people and at the same time feel part of the celebrations. Many people there will be there taking photos so its an opportunity to people watch and observe great unposed street scenes!
Note: This is a busy, crowded event. We will meet as a group at the start and end points (TBC), but most likely during the event you will do your own thing or can choose to walk with other group member(s) whilst you take photos. We will as our WSP tradition finish the Meetup in a cosy pub/bar towards the end of the parade route (most likely the All Bar One in Villiers Street (few mins walk from Trafalgar Square) for food and/or drinks. This is an opportunity to socialise in a very friendly group with people from the group, make new friends and share your photos if you wish. Full details of Start and End meeting points will be emailed to RSVPers. We look forward to seeing you!
