Join us for a street photography walk to the Portobello Road Market area on 8th June 2013.

Most people venture in staying on the tourist route, but never really check out the  cool side streets that the locals use as their shortcuts to avoid the market crowds to get from A to B! Do you also know there is a Golborne Road Market on the weekends that is also packed with great charm from the very old shop fronts, to the local characters, and stall keepers.

We are going to start this walk from the more remote and quiet end of West London taking in the famous  Grade II listed Trellick Tower (its kinda ugly but you can't help take in its size and eccentricity!), check out Golborne Road market, and then turn into Portobello Road market in reverse so we end up at Notting Hill Gate.

Portobello Market is is one of the most famous markets in the world, and is renowned for its antiques and vintage fashion. Golborne Road market features food stalls during the week and has busy second hand, vintage clothing and bric-a-brac sections at the weekend.

Golborne Road is located just off Ladbroke Grove at the Northern end of Portobello Road market. The market opening times are the same as Portobello Road. Golborne Road has its own quirky ambiance distinct to that of nearby Portobello, with an eclectic mix of international food stalls, restaurants from everyday cafes and kebabs to gastro-pub and upscale cuisine, second-hand and vintage wares, architectural antiques, niche designer and vintage fashion boutiques, personal pampering, discount and convenience shops, and local services. It stretches past the iconic Trellick Tower, which itself overlooks the Grand Union Canal leading to Regents Park, Camden and beyond. Golborne Road also serves as the hub of thriving Portuguese and North African communities.

We will then stop for a drink/food (optional) at Notting Hill Gate at the end of the walk.

Hi im new here n i will be attending tomorrow. Can i know how is the course like n what do we do along the walk? Just shooting? I might need guidance: )

    June 7, 2013

    • Linda

Hi, its not a course, there is no teaching involved. It is a street photography walk through Portobello Road Market where we are just shooting candid, interesting people and moments. As mentioned in the email sent out, if you are unsure of what Street Photography is, do a Google for it and you will see image examples of the style this group does.

Thanks for the reply. :) what i meant here is how is the walking n shooting course like? I get the idea of street photogeaphy but im not too sure if we can randomly shoot people along the course (is something i been wanting to do n have not have the courage to do so). I certainly need guidance on that. Anyhow im excited to join and meet you all tomorrow! Thank you Linda n see you tomorrow! :)))

I sent out an email of tomorrow's schedule. If you didn't receive it in your inbox, have a look in your spam/junkmail folder as sometimes Meetup mail drops in there. If you still can't find it, let me know and I will email it to you.

I have an exam the following Tuesday. I think this will be just the distraction I need for a few hours before returning to the books!

Hi. Can you confirm what the £3.50 is for please?
    Thanks!

    June 5, 2013

    • Linda

Money raised from membership fees goes towards paying the meetup.com subscription, which I have to pay as organiser, and also reflects the time and effort I put into researching the walks and organising these events.

  • IKS N

Hi I don't know about photography much but have acute interest... Should I attend I might have a lot of questions..

    1 · June 5, 2013

    • Linda

Hi IKS, if you attend the pub social after the walk, I'm sure the many camera addicts here someone can answer your questions, but generally this is not a type of event to get much tuition done mid walk.

Look forward to meeting everyone and hopefully getting some images on the day.
