Join us for a street photography walk to the Portobello Road Market area on 8th June 2013.
Most people venture in staying on the tourist route, but never really check out the cool side streets that the locals use as their shortcuts to avoid the market crowds to get from A to B! Do you also know there is a Golborne Road Market on the weekends that is also packed with great charm from the very old shop fronts, to the local characters, and stall keepers.
We are going to start this walk from the more remote and quiet end of West London taking in the famous Grade II listed Trellick Tower (its kinda ugly but you can't help take in its size and eccentricity!), check out Golborne Road market, and then turn into Portobello Road market in reverse so we end up at Notting Hill Gate.
Portobello Market is is one of the most famous markets in the world, and is renowned for its antiques and vintage fashion. Golborne Road market features food stalls during the week and has busy second hand, vintage clothing and bric-a-brac sections at the weekend.
Golborne Road is located just off Ladbroke Grove at the Northern end of Portobello Road market. The market opening times are the same as Portobello Road. Golborne Road has its own quirky ambiance distinct to that of nearby Portobello, with an eclectic mix of international food stalls, restaurants from everyday cafes and kebabs to gastro-pub and upscale cuisine, second-hand and vintage wares, architectural antiques, niche designer and vintage fashion boutiques, personal pampering, discount and convenience shops, and local services. It stretches past the iconic Trellick Tower, which itself overlooks the Grand Union Canal leading to Regents Park, Camden and beyond. Golborne Road also serves as the hub of thriving Portuguese and North African communities.
We will then stop for a drink/food (optional) at Notting Hill Gate at the end of the walk.
