Readings IV

After three great meetings at what came to feel like our home, we are moving east! Please join us at my house on Sunday, June 23rd at 4pm. I will send my address to all attendees upon their RSVP; it is near Highland, between Wilshire and Olympic.

We expect to read Uriah's play (see his comment for how to download a copy) as well as a segment from Pygmalion. If anyone has anything else they would like to read, please let me know.

Looking forward to it!

I had such a fabulous time on Sunday. Thank you so much Laura for providing such a wonderful venue for the event and being such a gracious hostess. Your house is so lovely! (And I enjoyed meeting Henry-the dog and Tuxedo-the cat.)

I was extremely impressed by the high caliber of the plays and the quality of the acting, especially on such short notice. This is truly a very talented group of people and I look forward to more enjoyable afternoons!

Laura, you have a beautiful home and incredible backyard. Thank you for hosting it. As always, it went well with talented members. I met a new delightful member who also lived in Thailand and is fluent in Spanish. Uriah, thank you for your charming script and John for being a great scene partner.

Laura, I don't know what you have planned to do with The Producers, but I would love to try my hand as Liebkind if anyone would join me in that scene.

I uploaded it because it's my favorite movie but we aren't planning to read it today. Let's discuss it for next time.

I am working today and might not be able to make it, will try.

  • Ilene

Hi. I am new to the group and don't know what the procedures are. I saw four plays in the files section. Should I print out and bring all four of them?

    June 23, 2013

    • Laura

Hi Ilene. No, you don't have to bring anything unless you already know what you will be reading.

      June 23, 2013

  • George L

    Seeking brave souls! Very brave!

I've uploaded a scene from my play "Witch Doctor." Henry has agreed to direct. HOWEVER, please be FOREWARNED that it contains controversial aspects, plus some bad language to boot. The 3 characters are Georgia, early thirties, Octavio, late twenties, and Joe, late fifties-early sixties. I also require someone to read action. If you feel that you would like to read one of the roles, please let me know ASAP. I'm not so concerned that you match the specific ages, but rather have conviction about the material.

Apologies about the eleventh hour notice, but I've been having a busy week and just got it to Henry this morning. George

    1 · June 21, 2013

    • George L

You're him then! Thanks, Kenny. Now just require someone to read action.

      June 22, 2013

    • Henry

Kenny - you are currently cast in JR's Silent Poet reading and you won't be able to do both given rehearsal time needed. Will you choose which one you would prefer and we can re-cast the other at the beginning of the meeting.

I cut off RSVPs earlier but only just found out how to set a maximum number on Meetup. Since this meeting will be at my house, I can't accommodate more than have already been confirmed. (If you have my address, you're confirmed!) Sorry to those who missed the cutoff, but please join us next time.

I won't be able to make it this Sunday, after all. Looking forward to meeting you during the next event. Cheers!

    1 · June 19, 2013

  • George L

    Laura,
My scene will be ready on Sunday. I have asked Henry to direct and have contacted him via his personal e-mail. I've promised it to him by tomorrow. It will be 9-10 pages. I'll make casting suggestions afterward, no later than Friday, then send it out. It’s been a hectic week, and I began writing it a few days ago, hence the delay. George

How long does this usually last? Thanks!

      Usually 2-2.5 hours.

  • Laura

I am closing reservations for this event. It's many more people than we've had in the past and definitely the maximum I can accommodate. Those who have already RSVPed have the address (and should please bring a drink for themselves and folding chairs if possible). Anyone coming in after this, sorry but maybe next time!

    1 · June 19, 2013

  • J.R.

I'm assuming a full screenplay will be too long for the session. Is it possible to bring in 30 pages at a time?

    June 15, 2013

    • Henry

JR - remember to bring a copy for each actor - and a couple more for luck.

      June 17, 2013

    • J.R.

      Will do. Thanx, Henry.

      June 18, 2013

  • Laura

If you are able to bring folding chairs, please do!

I am really looking forward to Sunday. This sounds like such a talented and fun group. I would love to be able to read a part, if more actors are needed. But I will also happily be part of the audience!

Wow, big turnout for this one! We will have to meet in the backyard and if anyone can bring some folding chairs it would be appreciated! I'll send out the address separately to those who have RSVPed. Looking forward to a fun meeting - and don't forget to plan for Ciclavia, with Wilshire closed until 4pm.

    June 15, 2013

I'm unfamiliar with Uriah's play but I would like to read. After I download it, will suggest a character for me or whoever directs can recommend the role. Either way, I'll be there with chips and a dip.

Please note: June 23rd is Ciclavia and Wilshire Blvd. between downtown and Fairfax will be closed to cars between 8am and 4pm. (You can cross at LaBrea only.)

This shouldn't be a big issue, but you should plan accordingly, especially if you are coming from the north.
