The Future of Front-end Development

  • This location is shown only to members

Our second meetup! Come learn and teach others about the future of front-end development. We had lots of fun last month introducing Polymer and Web Components (the food from MaxCDN and beer from Divshot didn't hurt) and we're ready for round two!

MaxCDN will once again be providing the space, food, and beverage, and Divshot will once again bring the beer. We also may be getting some swag (Polymer stickers, anyone?) from Google, stay tuned.

Bring a friend. Bring 10 friends! Weren't able to make it last month? Come this month! Whether you're already familiar with Web Components or have never had the chance to learn more, this meetup is the place to do it.

Web Components Rewind. We recorded the talks last month, so if you missed out you can catch up! They're up on our YouTube channel, so check them out.

=== Presentations (begin at 7:30pm)

Each meeting of Web Components LA will begin with a five-minute introduction to Web Components for newcomers (assuming any are in the audience).

A Practical Polymer Workflow (Ben Johnston)
It's great to hear about new technology, but what really matters is putting it into practice! Ben will walk us all through what it takes to set up, work on, and prepare for deploy Polymer applications.

Polymer's Layout Attributes (Jake Johnson)
Learn how to create sophisticated, responsive app layouts in seconds using Polymer's powerful layout attributes.

Extending Elements for Fun and Profit (Michael Bleigh)
Web Components are about more than just creating new elements; they're also about giving better capabilities to existing ones! Learn how you can extend elements and why you'd want to.

=== Group Project Brainstorm

We don't all have excuses to work on new tech at our day jobs, and that's what meetups are for! We'd like to brainstorm an open source Polymer app that we can all work on together to learn and experiment as a group.

Each month we'll try to set some objectives and keep the project going. Opportunities will abound for both learning more about Polymer and teaching others what you know!

    Nice meetup! Polymer looks extremely cool and promising! Exciting to play around with it. Solid presentations by the Divshot guys. They seem to know their stuff. And they offered a few cold ones for the event. How can you not love that? :)

    First time attending this groups meetup. Can you please list any open source frameworks, git hub projects, etc. so we can fork and be ready for the meetings demos and presentations! Much appreciated!

      Hey Gregory, I'd recommend doing some introductory reading at http://www.polymer-pr... to familiarize yourself with Web Components generally and Polymer (which most of the talks will be about).
