Speaker: Chris Bowen on Internet Explorer 9 Performance Improvements

  • July 27, 2011 · 7:00 PM
  • Wayfair Offices - 4 Copley Place

Join Chris Bowen and the Boston Web Performance group as we talk about what browser makers are doing to improve performance, and how the web is evolving!

As HTML5 expands functionality offered via web applications, more is being asked of the browsers enabling these client-side experiences.  For web developers, it's important not only to understand the new capabilities that browsers offer, but performance improvements as well.  In this talk, we'll focus on key performance improvements made in Internet Explorer 9 as well as general tips for improving web application performance.  Topics will include GPU-driven graphics subsystems, the JavaScript compiler, caching, resource utilization, power consumption, developer tools, performance tips for HTML5 development, and a look toward Internet Explorer 10.

Chris Bowen is a Principal Developer Evangelist with Microsoft, specializing in web technologies and working with customers and companies in the northeastern US.  An architect and developer with over 18 years in the industry, he joined Microsoft after holding senior positions at companies such as Monster.com, VistaPrint, Staples, and IDX Systems.  He is coauthor of "Essential Windows Communication Foundation" and "Professional Visual Studio 2005 Team System" and holds an M.S. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Management Information Systems, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

This meetup will be at the usual place, 177 Huntington Avenue on the 24th floor.  We will have free pizza and tea/coffee.  People can start arriving at 6:45 or so and the talk will begin at 7:30.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
