Web performance is obviously important to most engineers, but it is sometimes overlooked or under prioritized by business or product divisions. Mike Brittain will be visiting to talk about the web performance culture at Etsy as it has developed over the last year from the bottom up within the engineering team. He'll be discussing some of the tools that Etsy uses for measuring performance, how to instill a culture of performance, how Etsy tracks performance wins and regressions, and where to get started if you don't have a formalized performance team in your company.
Mike Brittain is one of the lead engineers at Etsy.com in Brooklyn, NY where he runs projects ranging from web performance to storing and serving hundreds of millions of image files for Etsy's web site. He's been working on the web for over 12 years, regularly bouncing between front- and back-end engineering projects and working in a number of start-ups and contract gigs.
This meetup will be at the usual place, 177 Huntington Avenue on the 24th floor. We will have free pizza and tea/coffee. People can start arriving at 6:45 or so and the talk will begin at 7:30.
