How long have you been working on improving website performance?

About five years. I started with optimizing back-end code, testing various XML processors to shave a few milliseconds here and there on a navigation system I built for a regional bank. Now, with JavaScript becoming ubiquitous (and often bloated), I'm focusing on any tools and techniques for improving front-end performance on websites.

How did you first become interested in making sites faster?

As far back as I can remember. Performance bottlenecks are a huge burden on users, and too often I've seen developers leave performance tuning as an afterthought.

Hi, I'm a designer/developer (mostly developer) new to the Boston area. I currently work as a UX developer at Achvr, but I'm interested in all aspects of improving website performance and responsiveness.
