We're going to talk about JavaScript performance in regular web pages, AJAX applications as well as widgets.
Sergey Chernyshev, will talk about JavaScript on the wire, how it affects web site performance and different techniques you can use to improve your JavaScript-heavy applications as well as just regular sites that might be hurt by badly implemented JavaScript. Sergey will also cover some network behavior specific to external JavaScript applications and why you should be careful with all the Widgets you want to plug onto your page.
Ning Zhou, organizer of the NY JavaScript Meetup, will discuss JavaScript performance in the browser. He will start with the importance of JavaScript performance in today's RIAs followed by a look at how JavaScript performance differs in various browsers and how this affects the coding approach. Then move on to common techniques that can help speed up client-side code. And lastly, Ning will discuss bottleneck detection in your JavaScript code so you can invent your own optimization techniques and provide a better overall user experience.
Getting there Interactive One's offices are near Canal street 1 and A/C/E stations:
“ Overall, generally good. I found Sergey to be a bit more engaging than Ning, although the acoustics and presentation set up in the area of Interactive One do leave a little to be desired. I'll attribute it to the volume of the voice. I definitely learned a thing or two, so I appreciate it being organized. Knowledge sharing is fantastic and it's also nice to meet other like-minded folks face-to-face in the real world. ”
“ Some nice tips on how to improve Javascript performance.
Also, it was useful to learn that there is an important difference between performance, scalability, and reliability. ”
“ I want to say thank you Sergey and Ning for interesting topic.
Actually I was #200 member of this meetup group and Segey presented to me two interesting books: High Pefomance Web Sites and Even Faster Web Sites by Steve Souders.
I started to read High Perfomance Web Sites.
If you are interested to improve your knowledge in Javascript and web development, I recommend reading these books and visiting next meetup! ”
