NO MEETING - WILL BE RESCHEDULED Re: [webperf] July 18: Performance Implications of Mobile Web Design with Guy Podjarny

From: Sergey C.

!!! PLEASE PAY ATTENTION - NO MEETING TONIGHT !!!

Unfortunately, due to weather conditions in NYC and massive flight cancellations since morning, there will be NO MEETING TONIGHT!

We will reschedule to a different date which we will announce it shortly.
Your RSVP will automatically transfer (you'll be able to change them if you change your mind).

I'm sorry for the trouble, but it's hard to fight the weather.

Thank you,

         Sergey

I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow! Please update your RSVPs if you can't attend to let people on the list in:

Animoto is hosting us and provides food and Catchpoint provided some very cool stuff for our "geek aways" ;)

Also this Saturday, Meetup, Etsy, Twillio and a few other companies run a Battle of the Braces Hackathon for PHP at Meetup HQ:
http://www.meetup.com/Battle-of-the-Braces/events/60476102/

There are a few seats left there, so if you're into coding on a weekend and want to show that PHP and APIs rock while building stuff together with fellow NYC coders, this is great place to be at, I'm going and would love to code together.

Best,

       Sergey

Next Wednesday, July 18 at 6:30PM we'll have Guy Podjarny from Akamai (former CTO of Blaze.io, creator of Mobitest) who is going to talk about Performance Implications of Mobile Web Design.

Building a good mobile website, spanning different devices, platforms and contexts, is a difficult task. And also making that website FAST is even harder. Performance is often overlooked as designers and developers focus on layout and functionality, often resulting with slow and heavy mobile sites. In this presentation we'll review the top design philosophies for building a mobile website. We'll briefly explain each, and dig into the primary performance implications it carries. We'll show real world examples, explain what they did wrong, and talk about how you can avoid these problems on your own site.

There are still few seats open, RSVP here: http://www.nywebperformance.org/events/58920192/

It'll be our first time at Animoto, thanks to Justin! They will also provide pizza and sodas!
