I run a local consultancy providing technology solutions to marketing and operational problems. Skills include design, XML, databases, and scripting. I'm also a volunteer on Rolesville's park advisory board.
My background is in software and databases. I am not formally trained in graphic arts, though I have some skill. Favorite tools include Inkscape and GIMP. XML/XSLT and Javascript - lots of experience - been working with markup since 1994.
Yes. I'm particularly interested in XML work that streamlines business processes, but I do design work when the project seems a good fit, and I'm a good fit for designers seeking to back-fill their developer resources.
I have used Joomlart.com designs with heavy modification to suit the client's design objectives. I find http://safari.awprofessional.com is a good resource too, and helps me hold the line on book purchases.
I co-authored the WROX book "XML Problem Design Solution", so of course I would recommend it for basic intro to some of the technology.
"I am also a member (and 2005 chair) of the Rolesville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board; the Open Space and Greenways Committee, and just graduated from NC State with a degree in mathematics."
I certainly appreciate the insights that members have shared over the years. It's a great way to meet people who are involved with the Web, one way or another. The more people step up, the more we are doing through the meetup.

"OH : Gotta love it. At the bottom of the first page of Google results without even trying. Even if everything did not happen a reason, we humans have a penchant for rationalizing about anything that we observe...."
Would anyone be interested in meetups in Cary?
"Betty, what about checking with the Business and Industry Center. I understand the library down near the BIC (can't remember its name) is popular as a meeting place. Disadvantage: no food/coffee service. Venues are a perma-question...."
"Ah, the bliss...."
"How different are Chrome and Safari in terms of CSS support? Don't they both use the WebKit rendering engine?"
"So, I came across a very nice looking private school site and after noticing that the URLs indicated it used Joomla, I had to peek under the hood...."
Would anyone be interested in meetups in Cary?
"Aye, that's the rub! People have contacted me from as far away as Wilmington to ask if we could schedule a meetup closer to them. It is certainly a stretch. Note that there is no shortage of user groups and meetups in Western Wake...."
"Here are a few "design pattern" sites, in the aesthetic sense: http://speckyboy.com/... http://www.designmelt..."
"I'm forking the previous thread, since the topics of reference sites and CSS adoration each merit their own discussion. So, why do I love CSS?..."
RTP Creative Juices and Wake Tech CC meeting on Internet classes
"Posted on behalf of Shawn, organizer for the RTP Creative Juices meetup (a graphic design group). Contrary to what is posted, the RTP Creative Juices calendar says the meeting is set up for November 16th...."
