Let's Hike Cloudland Canyon's West Rim Trail and Waterfall Trail

This will be an exploratory hike as I have not hiked here. That being said, it is within a State Park and has relatively well marked trails.

We may still catch some fall colors on this date, but I believe that the views will be amazing either way! Cloudland Canyon boasts steep canyon walls, interesting geology, outstanding views and several waterfalls along a 1200 foot deep canyon cut into the mountainous terrain over millions of years by Sitton’s Gulch Creek.

We will start out hiking the West Rim Trail until we intersect the Waterfall Trail. We will then follow the Waterfall Trail into the Canyon. This trail will have over 600 stairs which we will go down and then back up. After completing this in and out trail, we will rejoin the West Rim Trail for the remainder of its 5 miles.

The total hike will be right under 7 miles, including the 600+ stairs.

We will be hiking at a fast pace, taking small breaks to enjoy the scenery and take photos.

Please bring plenty of water and snacks/lunch. I am hoping to complete this hike in 4 hours. That being said, I have not hiked here, so it may take a little longer.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to carpool.

Please remember, this is a Georgia State Park and there is a $5 parking fee if you don't possess an Annual Georgia State Park Pass.

This should be an amazing hike and I hope you can explore a new area with me!

It was much easier than I anticipated....still some decent fall colors. The waterfalls had very little water in them. Overall, it is an amazing place....very beautiful!

Yeah, the waterfalls have been low for a while now. If you wanted more of a workout, you could have stopped by Dalton on your way home and gone up the Disney Trail a bunch of times! :)

I was out there just last week and although many of the trees have started going rust-colored, it's still pretty. :)

You're brave for wanting to do the Waterfalls and West loop at a fast pace, especially doing the waterfalls first. The word "stairs" makes it sound easy, but it's pretty brutal. I'd personally do the loop first, then try the first (shorter) waterfall, then do the final one if you're still alive.

Remember it's supposed to rain tonight (and I think in the morning), so make sure to take trekking poles if you've got them. It will help a lot with the wet leaves and sections of tree roots on the loop. Have fun! :D

Thanks for the info! I look forward to hiking with you sometime! The good thing about the rain overnight is that the waterfalls will be really flowing and full!

Lindsey, I live up 400 from you and would love to carpool with anyone. I would like to do this hike but without a carpool, I will back out and hike closer to home.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
