Have you heard about Hong Kong's infamous Monkey Mountain? Have you been dying to see the monkeys?
We will meet at 1.30pm sharp at Prince Edward MTR Station Exit D (inside the station), before making our way to the bus stop. Bus no. 81 will take us to Shek Lei Pui Reservoir which is where the MacLehose trail section 6 (Mac 6) begins. There are public toilets available before we begin the hike.
The monkeys* will welcome us (or not) to the hike. Mac 6 will take us on a short but steep ascent, overlooking Kowloon and Shek Lei Pui Reservoirs. From there, the remainder of Mac 6 is pretty much downhill. We will then proceed to a small section of Mac 7, walk past the Shing Mun Reservoir and then down to the Fo Tan Cooked Food Market. I expect us to get there around 5.30pm.
*There will be a lot of Macaque monkeys on Mac 6, please do not feed them. Feeding them causes them to lose their fear of people and vehicles, which in turn makes them more aggressive towards hikers. It causes rapid and unnatural growth of the Macaque population, but it also means that they lose their foraging skills which is harmful in the long term.
Note: I haven't walked this trail before, but the MacLehose trails are mostly paved, marked trails. I won't be "leading" you through the trail; we will be exploring the trail together. Please don't RSVP if you are uncomfortable with this.
