This 25 mile ride runs through wooded farmlands of east Hertfordshire. The beginning is similar to one we've done before but we'll do a little loop to Ware along the river Lee at the end of the day.
We'll start at Hertford and head on the quiet roads to Hoddesdon, the ride then goes through beautiful stretches of woodland past by the Broxbourne Wildlife park. We'll stop for a lunch in The Cowper Arms recommended by Andrea. There will be couple of hills but the ride is mostly flat. I think there is about 10 miles of a traffic-free trails.
What's there to see: River Lee, beautiful farms houses, lots of woodland and classic villages.
Distance: Approx 25 miles.
Itinerary: Hertford, Hoddesdon, Little Berkhampsted, Letty Green, Hertford, Ware and back to Hertford.
Difficulty: It's possible to ride only 18miles and skip the last part going to Ware and back. 16 miles on road, approx. 7 miles of gravel road. But be aware it can get muddy after the rain. A path along the river Lea can be a bit bumpy.
Meeting at North Hertford station, but you can also take train to Hertford East! It's not far.
Safety: Helmets are compulsory, glasses highly recommended. Ensure your bike is fit for riding on the road and be prepared to be responsible for your own safety.
What to bring: Warm socks, enough of water and some snacks to keep you going. Spare inner tube or puncture repair kit. Appropriate clothing; check the weather forecast on the day.
