Roam Local: Telegraph Hill & Waterfront Walking Tour

It's always fun learning local history: it gives a new perspective on the places we call home. This tour by Ryan, owner-operator of Roam Local, takes us to Telegraph Hill and the old waterfront. People love Ryan's iPad-enhanced Roam Local tours on Yelp, so this is one of several guided SF walking tours that we'll attend. The tour is normally $35/person, but Ryan was kind enough to extend us a generous discount. The $19/person payment covers your tour and registration costs.

Schedule
10:45am: Meet at the Ferry Building
11am: Tour begins
1:30pm: Tour ends
1:45pm: Snacks/lunch at the Ferry Building

After the tour, we will secure tables at the Ferry Building, explore the zillion food options, and bring our food back to the tables to eat together. The farmers market will be open, so interested folks can check it out too.

Items to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, layered clothes, water, cash for tips

Description from RoamLocal
This four mile walk begins and ends at the Ferry Building and explores the history of the old waterfront on Yerba Buena Cove, the Barbary Coast, and Telegraph Hill. We will ascend the wooded Filbert Street Steps to Pioneer Park and Coit Tower. A hidden park awaits on the other side of Telegraph Hill along with dramatic views of the Bay, Golden Gate, and Alcatraz. We descend the Greenwich Street steps down to Levi Plaza and meander along the Embarcadero and back to the Ferry Building. The birth of television and blue jeans, wild parrots, and an old observatory are some of the highlights. Some of the City's most beautiful hidden gardens and alleyways are along this walk. This tour has many steps both up and down and can be a bit challenging, but we take our time to enjoy the gardens and sites.

A great tour-Ryan was amazing, enjoyed the historical background/pics, the 'secret' public viewing spots and boundless energy. The Plant was a
neat place to eat and visit with each other and my Duck Confit pizza was really yummy. Thanks Renee for such a fun day!

Wow! I never knew San Francisco was so lawless at one time! Thanks Renée for bring a bit of the Wild West into an otherwise boring day! Kudos!

P.S. I drove the Vermont St. and it was much bigger roles but shorter than lombar. Still cool to to do the drive and a small part on the top.

Wow, Ryan is a phenomenal guide! I learned and laughed a lot while getting a bit of a workout. And, we couldn't have asked for better weather. Thanks for coming out -- please remember to post your favorite pictures. I hope to see all of you at another event soon!

I would like to join the tour. How about parking there and is there any carpool available to come from San Jose.

    September 6, 2014

    • Renee

Here is parking information from the Ferry Building site... Preferred parking locations for the Ferry Building are the Washington & Embarcadero Lot, Pier ½ Lots, as well as 75 Howard Garage (which is available on Saturday and Sunday only). Additional public parking can be found in lots along the Embarcadero and open, metered street parking. For more information, visit http://www.ferrybuild.... I am not organizing an official carpool, but feel free to post a note offering/asking for a ride.

Given the wait list, I just confirmed that there is room for eight of us, so I just made two additional spots available. Grab a spot, if you're still interested!

I moved this to April 26 as a placeholder. I'm waiting for the possible late April dates and we'll work together to finalize the new date, once available.
