Guided Meditation Night

A guided meditation is planned for this night.

--

Bring your cushion, zafu or bench, etc. Chairs are available if you don’t want to sit on the floor. We start at 8 pm with a brief discussion (please show up no later than 8:15) then sit for about 40 minutes and end with a brief discussion wrapping up around 9:30pm. If you are new to meditation this would be the night you would want to attend.

Fee: There is no fee to attend but we ask for a minimum donation of a $1 for the use of the facility. The director of Garden of Yoga has graciously opened up the studio for us to use and your donation is given to her.

Location and Directions:

The studio is located at the corner of Brewster Avenue and LaGrange Road. Suite #17 is in the back of the building, second floor. Please enter from the staircase in the back of the building by the parking lot. Parking is available on the street and behind the building.

OK sure morphic resonance may be medium to high on the woo woo scale. :-) But what about mirror neurons? Maybe metta is not "flowing out" effecting others but because you have developed it, people have a mechanism to intuit it and other emotions in you. They will feel it and so you will help to change society...if it is strong and stable enough in you. Launch the video here from Nova...

Since the issue of morphic resonance has been raised I just want to point out that after a little research into the subject I am finding loads of controversy within the scientific community about this subject and about Rupert Sheldrake.

Thanks Dorie...I listened from 1:28. Thurman always offers up an interesting perspective. BTW in the next book we will read for the December 12th meetup, Krishnamurti questions the notion of individual consciousness. He feels it is false. So we see again how developing loving kindness or compassion is supportive of a "greater" more encompassing truth.

Dorie ~~~ went to 1:28 minutes. Very good discussion and very succinct info. Will listen to entire tape when I have time. See you tomorrow.

Here is a follow up to the last meeting in which the issue was raised about Metta meditation and the idea of thoughts/energy flowing out and affecting others. In reference to that I came across this interesting interview of Sharon Salzberg and Robert Thurman by Krista Tippett. In the unedited interview near the end at about 1:28:04 Krista asked about their understanding of the mysterious, mystical idea that "breathing in infinite goodness or dedicating your hour of yoga to people", "this private act does send something out into the world and has an effect on the world". Check out the link above if you are interested in hearing their responses to that question.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
