Static Analysis for the Win with Bevan Arps

We all know that the earlier we find a bug, the cheaper it is to fix. Shouldn't we therefore being doing everything we can to identify bugs as early as possible? Come along and learn about the benefits of Static Analysis and how it help you identify (and eliminate) entire classes of bugs. We'll cover the use and configuration of the Code Analysis and Code Metrics tools built into Visual Studio, review some promising tools from Microsoft Research and investigate a couple of open source projects you may want to adopt.

    Thanks for the talk Bevan!

One question I do have is can you write your own custom rules for Code Analysis?

Yes, you can write your own rules for Code Analysis, thought I haven't done it myself. IIRC one of the complaints that led to the Gendarme project starting was that writing custom rules was "too hard".

Apologies I've come down with the flu and won't be able to attend, unfortunately. Do these talks get uploaded to the net anywhere?

Hi Zeb. We don't record or upload the talks, but I will be putting my slides and speaker notes up on my blog shortly - keep an eye on http://www.nichesoftw...
