What I did for Christmas: MVC, MEF, Dapper and more

Come and listen as Peter shows us how he built a modular MVC 4 web site over Christmas using MEF, Dapper, jQuery, Bootstrap and lots of other fun things.

The presentation will be a grab-bag of many different technologies and patterns that you can use as is or extend.  Specifically, he may talk about :

  • The architecture of the application
  • Why the modular approach and why MEF?
  • Dapper for data access and migrations
  • SQL Server Data Tools projects and inserting sample and reference data
  • OpenID authentication and Action level authorization
  • Bootstrap v jQuery UI
  • Mustache & Handlebars templates
  • SignalR for ultimate coolness

This session will be useful for anyone new to MVC who is considering creating a site using the latest and shiniest tech.  There may not be time to dive deeply into everything... :)

Thanks to all for attending, I think the session went pretty well.

During the session someone asked why some of the tokens in the Handlebars template looked like {{var}} and others where {{{var}}}. At the time I thought this was a typo but in fact, triple {{{mustaches}}} are used to turn off escaping of the variable value - useful when you want to insert some HTML on the page, which was the case for {{{blogbody}}}.

    Cheers

Well, I'd hate to be the sole voice offering suggestions ... but I'm willing to risk it ... :-) ... of the things you've listed, MEF, Dapper, and Sql Server Data Tools Projects have the most personal interest.

Cool, that's pretty much what I figured and these are the easiest things to talk about and demo :)

I've been finalising my presso over the weekend but I'd still love to know if anyone wants to hear about anything in particular in this stack, eg, Dapper, MEF, Bootstrap etc?

Ive been trying to figure out a good way of demonstrating all this stuff. I think the best way is to skim over the top and then drill down into the bits that people are interested more in. So, if there is anything in particular that you would more detail on then please let me know now.

I figure Dapper and MEF are probably good topics to focus on but I'm also doing a lot of stuff with ElasticSearch which we could also throw into the mix :)
