We are a club aimed at people who want to try a game that’s non-contact, fun and a little bit different. We aim to build a popular and competitive Social league as well as to participate in National and hopefully International level games.
For people who just want to have fun and meet people:
The club actively promotes a fun have a go culture among it’s members.
Wellington Korfball currently has a base of 24 members who all play because they enjoy the sport and coming together once a week.
The teams have to be 50/50 men and women so we are very social and it’s a great game to play as an individual or a couple.
We have an after work pub night the first friday of the month and try to have a social outing once a month (BBQ’s, Movies, Comedy Shows, Dinner etc)
For people who want to play competitively.
We have regular skills trainings throughout the year. We have 4 leagues through out the year (based around the school terms).
You will have the option to sign up to and train for National level competitions, also competitions against Australian clubs and to compete for a place on the NZ team to play internationally.
What is Korfball?
Korfball is a Dutch sport from the same family as Netball and Basketball.
A korfball team is made up of eight players - four men and four women.
The team is split evenly in to attack and defense These attackers and defenders switch halves and rolls after every two goals in the game.(so you get to play both positions)
An attacker can’t shoot if they are defended, so as a team you have to work together to get the ball and a player in to a position to shoot.
