It's time for another meetup, and as usual we have two great talks lined up.
Alex Gibson will attempt to demystify d3.js, and explain how to use it to build beautiful visualisations.
Eoin Kelly will discuss some concepts and side-effects which are keys to understanding how CSS views the world. Hopefully he'll persuade you that CSS isn't crazy, it's just misunderstood.

Learned a lot form both the talks. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the great talks, beers and pizza. No excuses for breakaway block elements now!
Someone (sorry I didn't catch your name) asked if I could post Ze Frank's tool that lets you find the opposite side of the world to a location. http://www.zefrank.com/sandwich/tool.html

Awesome first wellington.js experience. Thanks for the awesome d3.is talk Alex and Eoin for schooling me on CSS mental models.
Hey all,Codepens for my talk are at http://codepen.io/eoinkelly/public/ if you want to follow along - I don't know if they will make much sense outside of the context of the talk but I guess you can admire the vibrant primary colours ;-).

at the overflow event we could have the presenters from last time present :-)

What happens if the overflow event eclipses the real event?
Then we are all doomed~
Actually, I can't come to an overflow event tonight, haha I'm the greatest
Looking forward to tonight, particularly the CSS talk. Wish CSS selectors could step back up the DOM (like XPath) but I guess that makes it easier/faster for the browser. In othe news I've been working on this XML editor that seems to exist solely to namedrop lots of js tech: web workers, emscripten compiled relaxNG validator, and pseudo-elements http://github.com/holloway/doctored
I like it, but we really need to keep wellington there to differentiate us from other cities.

True. wellington.js club
Don't be sad, there'll be another one soon.
guys, as soon as I'm in the waiting list here - does that mean it's strictly No-No to come or is there a chance assuming that not every one attendee will actually come (as it always happens)?

Hi Ivan, if people change their RSVP to No, others on the watlist are added to the attending list. I see that you're on the attending list so this must have already happened for you :)
Hi everybody,I will be working through some quick examples from on CodePen during my talk - feel free to bring your laptop and follow along. I'll try to have my slides available online too before the talk.
I'm going to cover quite a bit of ground quite quickly so if CSS layout isn't super fresh in your brain you might find http://learnlayout.com useful as a warm-up.
I'm nervously looking forward to seeing everyone on thursday ;-)

Awesome, thanks Eoin. Looking forward to the talk :)

Disappointingly work requires me to be in Auckland that night :(

Any reason this is on thursday not wednesday?

I don't believe so.
It was actually to avoid a clash with Well Railed (http://www.meetup.com...) next week
Ah right. I think it clashes with isig with is last Thursday of month
We're sussing out intertest at the moment, and planning an informal first meetup in the next few weeks...
Painless domain management
I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
