Pencarrow lighthouse star trails

I will be heading out to Pencarrow lighthouse either Friday 1 st or Saturday 2 nd weather dependant to have a go at taking some star trails like this one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kiwi_macro/8396812441/in/set-72157630812501900)

If anyone is interested in joining me just let me know and we can meet up.

I am thinking of leaving at about 5 - 6pm and walking out, I will be staying there until about 1-2 am and then walking back. I will be taking warm clothes and food as well as my camera gear etc

I know the sevens are on, but the weather looks good and the moon should be ok and not brighten up the sky to much.

Brilliant outing, brilliant night! Only reason not a 5 star was 'cause it was windy. Many thanks Chris for sharing that with the rest of us. MUST do it again sometime.

Stonehenge is brilliant. The guy to contact out there is RICHARD HALL. A very nice bloke, and the driving force behind the building of Stonehenge. Richard will 'open up' to groups at any time, probably even at 1am in the morning! There would be costs; accomodation, maybe entry fee to Stonehenge (although it is free unless you do the tour (or it used to be)). Need a still windless, cloudless, moonless night to do this, but it would be a definate blast! Would probably be best to limit numbers to about ten people.

I can get to Eastbourne OK but can I get a lift with anyone down to the lighthouse?

Chris, I'm driving over to Eastbourne but cycling down to the lighthouse, I'll see you guys down there.

Chris, you mentioned a key to a gate, I assumed it was a public footpath so I'm obviously missing something here. Can I still gain access to the path if I arrive after you guys head off on the walk?

Don't know much about photograpning star trails, on a digital camera, but would love to come out. Is it OK to bring a dog?

I am not sure about dogs - the walkway is next to private farmland. Goats and sheep are very close by and I *think* there is "no dogs" sign at the barrier gate. It's been a while since I went out there last.

I'll bring one or two sets of binoculars with me as well. Commet Lemmon is below the Southern Cross at the moment. It's still pretty faint, but is easy visible in binos. We can see it from the street-lit city, so out by the lighthouse, it should be good! ... lighthouse... um... won't that interfere with star trails if you try to include it in shot?? :-D

It is quite a walk, isn't it? I am not fit at all, actually really unfit - would someone like me cope with it?

    January 27, 2013

    • Paul W.

Susan, it actually less than that because the information is based on going to Pencarrow Lakes which are around 5km past the lighthouse. From the end of the road to the lighthouse is about 5km so you can do it in a hour.

Ooo, I do like the idea - but only have a restricted licence, so would either need a lift, or a someone who has a full licence to ride in my car. Totally happy to amble at an unfit pace.

Yay! I will take you up on that offer :-)

I would be interested in doing this another time. Possibly somewhere else

I'm probably keen, I just need to make sure first.

Replying to my own post, but eh. While I would absolutely love to do this, and I think that it is going to lend itself to some seriously awesome photos, I just don't think that any part of me would be happy walking 2h back to the car park at 2am. So at this point I'm going to very regretfully change my RSVP to no. :(

Oh gosh, I would love to be there, but... I dont think being out that late is a good idea for me at the moment :( Cant WAIT to see the photos though, they should be seriously epic!
