Weekend Challenge 12 - Opposites Attract

A contradictory weekend challenge from Jess. Nonetheless, you still don’t need to specifically go anywhere or catch up with anyone.

The idea is that Amelia, Jim and Jess will be issuing a challenge each weekend, and you are welcome and encouraged to submit a single image that you think fits with the (loosely) interpreted theme of the weekend.

We’re still debating if the best way is to upload the images to Meetup.com, or to flickr, or even to facebook, and we’d be interested in your thoughts on this. For the moment, let’s just stick with Meetup.

This week

Photographs about opposites, or any other interpretation of the theme

Here are links to some example images (from Jim. Jess is a little busy) to get you thinking:

[Religious Conflict] [Opposites Attract] [Polar Opposites]

Rules and hints…

•  The image supplied must be a photograph, or a combination of photographs. That doesn't mean you cannot manipulate it, but it must have started as an actual photograph.

•  5PM Friday to 8AM Monday to take the image. Images taken outside this timeframe are not eligible.

•  You have until Midnight on Monday night to upload your best picture.

•  One image only.

•  You can't RSVP after the event has started. Don't worry about it, just get going. You can still enter.

•  Interpret the theme any way you want.

•  It's best to give your image a caption. Honest, it might help your chances…

•  Have fun. No, really. Otherwise, what's the point?

•  Jess, Amelia and I are ineligible to win, but we might enter, to keep the pace up. :-) We're all pretty busy though…

•  We have sorted out the best way to manage the album, and you can upload images to it once the meetup starts. A link will be supplied in my first comment. Once the meetup finishes (8AM Monday) a link will also appear in the meetup itself, and you can use that to achieve the same thing.

•  There are no prizes (unless you want to sponsor one) but you'll have all the bragging rights you can handle.

•  The judges' decision is final. We'll provide a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place-getter.

•  No need to enter every week. But it's good fun!

Congratulations to our 1st place winner, Sian BurlingClaridge (again!) for 'Fire and Ice'. Nice lighting and grasp of the theme, and framing. http://www.meetup.com/WellingtonPhotographyMeetupGroup/photos/17067572/278260872/

3rd place goes to Bran Pollock for his 'Feng Shui' image. Good colour, exposure and idea.

Life must be more hectic than we thought. Sorry for spelling your name wrong, Bryan.

2nd was a little tougher... A cat photo from Ryan Hannah managed it. Definitely some opposites there, and Jess gave it extra points for having a cat. :-)

Okay, well not only were the entries a little sparse, the judges got really busy and have only just been able to come up with some results. Maybe we'll just put this one aside. :-) However...

Totally ran out of time and inspiration. And as soon as it was too late I saw exactly what I and looking for. Oh well, too bad

Wow, only 8 images despite 27 people signing up... We'll be back with some results as soon as we can. Anyone want to tell me what went wrong? :-(

Challenging topic combined with being busy, Jim! It was hard to get my head around the theme and the stuff I was trying out just did not look good! I did submit a photo in the end but it was taken for another reason (event photos) and just submitted as an afterthought!!! As always fun to be challenged though, please keep the ideas and weekly challenges coming :-)

It was a busy weekend and generally just a busy time recently for me. In the time I had I couldn't think of a suitable theme and didn't see any inspiration while out and about.
