Navigation Skills Evening

On the past few tramps i have done, i've run into a few people that love tramping but their skills with the good ol' map and compass are a bit rusty. People rely on GPS far too much now. Sadly GPS is not full (or fool) proof. Its another tool to help navigate. I am proposing a map and compass skills night. Just a basic to intermediate level to get people a lot more confident using a map and compass. Hopefully there is some interest, from people that wish to learn/polish up on navigation skills. I am a member of Wellington LandSar (this is not an activity of SAR), so i see the results of good and bad navigation skills first hand. Bring your personal compass, and any maps you have and we can go from there. Nothing formal. Maybe a couple of beers at the same time. message me and we can go from there. Date/time can be flexible. Cheers, Bruce. My Adress is 2/84 Gillespies Rd, Birchville, UH

Don't stress if you don't have a map, as i have quiet a few. But would be good to see what maps you guys are using (as there are several different types out there) Bring your compass if you have one, as again there are lots of types out there, and it is best to know how to use YOUR one. See you guys tonight.

Ill run another one later on for people that couldn't make it. This isn't a 'formal' course, Just me, a map and a compass showing you how to use it. (course seems a bit structured) :) Hopefully people will be able to come out with more confidence - Get the ball rolling!
people that are attending (i live in a small house, and there is only one of me, so not too many ppl - maybe 6 is a good number) - Email me, and i will flick you my address. [masked]

Hey Tim, yeah 6max is prob a good number Prehaps have a 'waiting list' just in case someone isn't able to attended. ( i couldn't find the number of people button)Looks like it is an idea people are open to, and hopefully it helps keep people from getting lost, and allows them to adventure places with a little more confidence. (can only lead a horse to water though :) I'll do another one, after this one, if it goes well and the 'students/fellow trampers' find it interesting and helpfull.
