Te Araroa (Porirua to Khandallah)

Te Araroa is a project to connect a continuous walking route along the entire length of New Zealand and thanks to that project it’s now possible to go from Colonial Knob through private land, the Spicer Forrest and onto Mt Kaukau. Approx 6km of this walk will be along rural roads.

The walk takes approx 5 – 6hours with at least 15km of walking with steep sections.

The options for getting there depending on attendees and are;

1. Leave a car at Mount Kauakau (Simla Crescent Station) and the occupants of that car are then taken to Colonial Knob (Sunlight Grove entrance). On the way back the owners of the car left at Colonial Knob will be driven back there.

2. Alternatively we do this walk by public transport starting at Kenepuru Train Station and ending at Simla Crescent Station.

*Please add a note when RSVPing about whether you can bring a car and where you would be coming from.*

    Hi! I'm a student living at the cube on taranaki street. I don't have a car, so if anyone is driving along taranaki street I'd be very happy if I could get a ride to where we are meeting up :)

    I have a car, and am happy to leave at either end, if that helps. I'm not up to full tramping speed tho so if you want a quick walk I'll drop out

      Hi Peter, you are not picking up anyone. You'll leave your car at Colonial Knob and someone will drop you back to it at the end of the walk. See you on Saturday!

    Hi all, weather so far is looking good for our work but given this is Wellington will keep checking through the week! In terms of transport we currently can fit 5 people who want to meet at Simla Crescent Station (which is also where the walk ends) at 9:40am. To then take a car to the start of the walk.

    If you are coming by public transport we can meet you at the corner of Raiha St and Broken Hill (walkable from Kenepuru Railway Station).

    Hope this makes sense! Please let me know if there are any questions.

    Looking forward to it,
    Nikki

    Hi. I am coming from the city. Would be great to jump in a car with someone, but public transport works well too :)

    I'm from Kapiti so public transport suits me down to a tee. :-)
