    January 25, 2013

  • Debbie

So now that we have the meeting time/place figured out, back to food and group gear. I’ll bring my backpacking stove and fuel. Stephen, did you say you have a pot we can cook with? (I only have a solo set.) We can make pasta with zucchini/courgette if that is okay with everyone. I’ll bring the zucchini. Frank/Stephen, can bring sauce/pasta. Anything else you can think of to arrange before we go? My # is[masked] in case you need it. Looking forward to it!

Yes I can bring a pot. I also cooked up some chicken earlier so we can throw that in too, I'll grab some sauce. Is there any need for me to bring my gas cooker? We can be back by 5 no problem, I'm allowing 3hrs driving time each way. Weather should be great maybe a little cloud so should be a nice hike

      January 25, 2013

  • frank h.

    January 25, 2013

    • Debbie

yeah i'd like to be back at a reasonable time sunday. don't think 5 should be a problem.

      January 25, 2013

    January 25, 2013

    • Debbie

petone would be good. if we are just going up to the hut on Sat, we could leave later around noon or something?

Leave slightly later and climb the summit on Sunday Morning, and then going back to WLG ? i wouldn't be in a rush on Sunday. plse advise what u think

    January 25, 2013

    • Debbie

That's fine with me i guess. weather looks fine either way. Stephen, do you have a preference?

      January 25, 2013

  • frank h.

hi guys, noticed that the waiting list cleared. I would be keen, but won't have a chance joing in car pooling by the look of it. I'm in WLG city and u guys are from the Hutt. There is no way i could come from the city to the Hutt that early. Or is anyone driving from the city ? Tramp looks nice.. plse let me know. cheers. frank

      January 24, 2013

    January 24, 2013

  • AJ B.

Ok..Frank and Al..do you need ride? Where u guys live? The other 2 abandoned me ;-)

    January 23, 2013

  • Fiona

I live in the Hutt, so could feasibly drive to Upper Hutt and leave my car at your place. If Debbie is in the Hutt, could pick up en route.

    January 23, 2013

    • Debbie

I'm in Wainui but can meet you at your house or anyplace convenient for you. I'll just have my boyfriend drop me off, then we can go to Stephen's place.

Hi guys, I have a 1 pot gas stove and a reasonable sized billy, I can bring a big pot if needs be, also have a first aid kit and personal locater beacon. It's roughly 2.5hrs to mangaweka not sure how far in after that. Is it ok if I leave my house at 7am on saturday morning because I don't finish work till late sunday night! I don't have a problem leaving early on sunday but that means we won't get much time to enjoy the views! Fiona and Debbie where is a good spot to pick you guys up?

    January 23, 2013

  • AJ B.

Not really prepared to leave that early :-/

    January 23, 2013

    • Debbie

the other car can decide to leave later. we'd just need one car to leave early =)

      January 23, 2013

  • Fiona

Do you know what time we'll be back, approximately, on Sunday? I need to move house, but really want to come on the hike.

    January 23, 2013

    • Debbie

Well, I am happy to come back early on Sunday. If Stephen is too, we can leave the hut at whatever time suits and be back about 5 hours after that. So if we leave the hut around 7am, we should be back around 12. I am even fine with getting up earlier than that. Stephen, what do you think?

      January 23, 2013

  • Debbie

    Cooking Supplies:
I have a small backpacking stove & fuel canister I can bring.
Anyone have decent size cooking pot?

    January 22, 2013

    • AJ B.

I have a small gas cook also. Have 2 person cooking pot set. I can bring a normal size cooking pot if u want?

      January 22, 2013

  • Debbie

    Cars:
Fiona & Debbie riding with Stephen (Upper Hutt/Lower Hutt)
Jolene & Shane riding with AJ (Are you all from Wellington?)
    Is that correct?
We will calculate and divide petrol costs at the end?

    January 22, 2013

    • AJ B.

I live at Paparangi. You can leave ur car at my place or I can pick u up at a place where we can meet. Shane and Jolene..where do u live?

      January 22, 2013

  • Debbie

I'm thinking we can leave by 7am, should be at trail head around 9:30, start by 10, should be at the hut by 12-1pm, drop gear, summit by about 3pm, back to the hut by 5pm to enjoy the rest of the evening! Next morning get up whenever is suitable, couple hour walk back to the carpark and drive home. That's the rough plan for timing! =) So we should be able to leave Wellington area around 7am and still have plenty of time to climb to the trig and back to the hut. Of course if we are faster then we have even more time to relax at the hut! =)

    January 22, 2013

    • Debbie

my bad, checked time from wellington to mangaweka is 2.5hrs, to mangakukeke rd to start is another 45min or so. But I think we can still leave at 7am if that is good with everyone.

      January 22, 2013

  • Debbie

I usually plan to have separate breakfast/lunch/snacks but it is nice to have dinner together. Any suggestions? Or stick to an easy pasta dinner? I have plenty of zucchini (courgette) that we could add to the pasta. And I'll probably bring some adult beverages unless anyone objects.

    January 22, 2013

  • AJ B.

Are we bringing own food? Or sharing? Have never done a trip this tramping group before. Lookibg forward to it.

    January 22, 2013

  • AJ B.

@Shane and Debbie...wouldnt have a clue. Need to ask the boss Debbie...hey Debbie. Are we suppose to be at Mangaweka by 7am or is that leaving Wellington at 7am?

    January 22, 2013

  • AJ B.

I have a landcruiser if you want me to take. Much more room for long trips.

Thats all good with me, I'm in upper hutt so can collect people in lower hutt no problem, just give me a time and I'll be there

    January 17, 2013

  • Fiona

Great! I'm also in Lower Hutt, and obviously need a ride.

    January 17, 2013

  • Debbie

We have permission from the landowner for next weekend. He was quite pleasant. Should probably take 2 cars unless anyone has a van to fit 6 and gear. Shane and Stephen have offered their cars, correct? I'm certainly keen to grab a ride and share petrol cost. (I'm in Lower Hutt.)

    January 16, 2013

  • AJ B.

Yeah I would like a ride please. Happy share fuel cost.

    January 12, 2013

  • AJ B.

Have we got permission from land owners to access via their property yet? Just checking.

    January 10, 2013

  • Fiona

Shane - definitely car pool. Its a reasonable distance.

    December 14, 2012

  • Jo S.

Hi Debbie, my partner Tim and I would be keen to come, but there's only 1 spot left. Please let us know if we could potentially join you. (And we'll look out for cancellations).

    December 14, 2012

  • Fiona

Looks like we need to contact the landowner for persmission to hike. Contact Richard Gorringe on +64 6 3825856. Can you do that Debbie?? I also limited RSVPs to 6, as this is the number the hut fits.

    December 12, 2012

    • Debbie

Yeah, I'm also trying to find out about the water situation at the hut. The DOC page says there is an issue, but I'm not sure if it's old info since it says it's due to frosts.
