Whitireia Park Walk - Relay for Life fundraiser

An easy walk at a moderate pace with varied and spectacular views. As this is a fundraiser for Relay for Life please bring a donation.

We'll walk to Onepoto Park and begin the walk around Whitireia Peninsula with sleepy harbour views and interesting vegetation to Onehunga Bay. We'll stop here for a break (and a swim if anyone's keen) before continuing up the hill towards the top of Mount Whitireia. The coastal views are magnificent. There's also some interesting local history I can share with you.

Leaving the park we'll walk via the ice cream shop back down to Main Road to reconnect with the bus/cars.

We'll be walking on footpaths, gravel and grass tracks.

You'll need to bring

* Walking shoes (though the track is well formed)

* A warm layer (it's exposed on the hill top)

* Water/snack

* Togs/towel if you fancy a quick dip

* Sunscreen and sunhat

* Money for an ice cream

* Donation for Relay for Life

Getting there: Take the 12:14 Kapiti train from Wellington to Porirua and the connecting bus 220 on platform A.  Hop off at bus stop 2816 on Titahi Bay Road next to the Whanga Street walkway near the junction of Titahi Bay Road and Te Pene Ave.  We will meet at the bus stop where there is also room for cars to park.

If wet I will take you on a mystery walk indoors showing you some of the local treasures and hot spots.
