You are on now on our Meetup site. This is our working site where we schedule trainings and take signups.
We are a group of attorneys, who are (mostly) moms & solo practitioners who want to do pro bono work in a way that does not interfere with our family/work life. We now have men, retirees, and 1/3 of our participants are solo practitioners.
Our projects are:
- finite and won't hang over your head;
- have backup by working in teams so if there's an important client call or (gulp) sick kid, NO worries;
- geographically sensitive by having trainings in Oak Park; and
- are never outside of school hours (or are really flexible).
There is no ongoing commitment and no pressure. You'll love getting to know some like-minded neighbors while doing some good.
Projects for 2012-2013 are: Domestic Violence, Jail Clinic for Incarcerated Mothers, Lawyers in the Classroom, Senior Center Initiative, Senior Intake Clinic, Immigration; and Tenant Eviction. We also have a list of local moms who can provide sporadic sitting if needed.
We've been having a great time since February 2011!
Details on our past projects and articles are at www.westcookprobono.com.
(We do not represent individuals. if you are looking for pro bono representation please go to http://www.illinoislegalaid.org/)
If you are not an attorney, but would like to help in some way, please send a message to us through meetup. We have loved the offers for translation, office space, and general consulting. Thank you to our community for all your generosity. (Believe me, you don't want all the emails the attorneys are getting!)
