Weather is going to be fabulous!
Best kept secret in West County! MY PERSONAL FAVORITE HIKE. Easy, level, gravel and extremely scenic. GREAT FOR BEGINNERS. I walk this one at least once a week, sometimes more, and I thought I would invite the rest of you along. It's worth the drive. If you've never hiked it, you're really missing something!
The trail is extremely scenic, going between towering bluffs on one side and the Meramec River on the other side. Watering holes for dogs, usually good river access at both ends. The people who have been on this trail love it. We have a great "stop-n-play" creek at about the 1/2 way point.
We'll hike from Glencoe to Sherman, 2.5 miles, and back again every Thursday morning. It will take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on how much we lolligag. This will not be a "workout" hike, it's easy, beautiful and quiet. We probably won't see anyone else at all on the trail the entire time, maybe one or two other people.
MEET AT THE LAST PARKING LOT ON THE ROAD, PAST THE RAILROAD TRACKS.
There are NO BATHROOMS AT THIS PARKING LOT. Only ones are at the FIRST parking lot, the one by the picnic grounds. There is also NO PUBLIC WATER here, so bring some for yourself and your dog, but the dogs usually prefer river water.
If the river is normal, or even slightly high, there will be swimming and/or wading at both ends of this hike. PLEASE HAVE STURDY HALTERS, NOT JUST COLLARS FOR YOUR DOGS, if you plan to let them near the water. This can be a very dangerous river, and we don't want your pup to become a casualty!
