CANCELED.....ROCKWOOD RESERVATION DOG HIKE, it's just too nasty out there

THIS HIKE IS CANCELED, DUE TO WEATHER. THE "CURSE OF ROCKWOOD RESERVATION" CONTINUES !

THIS IS THE ALL-TIME FAVORITE OF OUR SATURDAY CREW! A bit of a workout, but it won't kill you if you're in reasonably decent shape. Our pace will be relaxed but moderately brisk. We will stop whenever necessary to water the dogs or look at the scenery.

About 4 miles. Allow 2 hours for hike.

THIS HIKE IS SLIGHTLY DIFFICULT IN SPOTS, just a little workout. They can't all be easy! Beautiful scenery, caves, bluffs...just a pretty hike. We'll be hiking the Quarry trails. Gravel/paved. Each leg of the hike has a big hill up (200' elevation climb), a level ridgetop, and a big hill down (200' back down). Some long staircases.

Be sure that you AND YOUR DOG can handle these things.

Creek "stop -n-play" for dogs mid hike, but no water on trails

BATHROOMS for humans mid hike.

DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON SHORT LEASH

No mud. No bikers, except on roads around parking lot

LUNCH....

After the hike, those who want to take their pups to lunch can head up the road about 4 miles to Big Chief Roadhouse, our favorite restaurant. They have a covered, dog-friendly patio with heaters, comfortable in 30 degree weather. Traditional American food, burgers & good salads/soups. Figure $10-$12 for lunch!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

Either Hwy 44 or Hwy 100/Manchester Road to HIGHWAY 109. Approximately 2.5-3 miles from either direction, you will turn on Woods Avenue west (there is no stoplight here, but you'll see the ROCKWOOD RESERVATIONS signs just before Woods Ave).

Go west on Woods about 500', then immediately right through the gates into the park. If you don't see the park entrance right away, you've turned the wrong way on WOODS.

MEET AT THE EDUCATION CENTER, ABOUT 1.5 MILES INTO THE PARK.
