This group is for people who want to bring their dogs along when they hike, instead of leaving their best friends at home alone.
The pace of our hikes is more relaxed, our groups are small (ideal group size is about 4-8 humans), and trails are reasonably easy. Just a bunch of people who love their pooches, out for a walk in the park. Our hikers and their dogs sometimes get dirty and wet, but the dogs always have a good time.
We walk at a reasonably brisk pace & cover about 3 MPH, or 20-minute miles average, unless otherwise specified. Difficult trails and rough terrain go slower. Hikes are generally 3-6 miles long, about 1-2 hours of actual walking, with play time whenever possible. EVENT HOSTS SET THE PACE OF THE HIKE.
Read the hike description, it will tell you what you need to know. Please don't sign up for hikes that are too slow, too fast or too difficult for you.
We often play as much as we hike on our outings. We take our goof off time seriously with plenty of "Stop-n-Plays" at lakes and creeks and "Stick Fetch" if we're near a river or lake.
If you're looking for a power-hiking group, this isn't it! However, we ARE a hiking group, and a lot of our hikes require you to be reasonably fit. We are also VERY happy to have new Event Hosts for those who want an outing that suits their desires and abilities. Hike descriptions are very accurate, just read them and you'll know if it's for you.
Dogs must be friendly, well behaved & short-leashed.
Male dogs must be neutered. This is NOT open for discussion!
NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES, they're a major aggravation.
PLEASE BRING WATER FOR YOUR DOGS, or STAY HOME. We check before every hike to be sure that everyone has water for their dogs. If you do not, you will not be allowed to hike with our group. That is animal abuse. We don't care if you're thirsty, but it really bothers us if your dog is. Please, do not come on these hikes expecting others to share their water with you. WE STOP OFTEN TO WATER THE DOGS.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR RSVP CURRENT & BE ON TIME. We hit the trail at the scheduled time, so arrive a little early..
WE REQUIRE A PICTURE FOR MEMBERSHIP, PREFER ONE OF YOUR PUP and his/her breed and name for our photo album. Unlike other meetup groups, this matters to us because of the "DOG" factor. It's also a security measure for our Event Hosts.
Please also include a last name or initial if you have a common name, just helps us keep our members straight and makes the Organizers job a LOT easier. It's a real hassle for us, if you don't do it.
We walk as a pack and, therefore, have to have respect for our fellow pack members and their dogs...a little different from walking alone. Understand that you may have to "adjust" a few of your habits when you walk with a group of dogs who have, often, never met each other.
We also expect our pack members to respect the parks that we hike in and the other people who use them. We don't own the trails.
ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ OUR POLICIES AND TIPS,
Take just a minute to read it before your first hike with us, or before you sign up. We expect our Dog Pack members to adhere to these policies at all times. When we have a group of dogs on our hikes, we really do need a few rules to protect all of our pups.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL MEMBERS HIKE AT THEIR OWN RISK. ORGANIZERS AND EVENT HOSTS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURIES TO YOU OR YOUR DOG. WE TRY HARD TO MAINTAIN ORDER ON OUR HIKES, BUT YOUR SAFETY (AND YOUR DOG'S SAFETY) IS ULTIMATELY UP TO YOU.
