Hometown: Creve Coeur

I'm KAREN, the human in this duo. My best friend is Sissy, a 7 yr old Australian Cattle Dog (BLUE HEELER) who needs to have a "job" to do, part of the breed. She takes her job of leading this pack very seriously, and I get to drive her around to the hikes that she plans for her friends.
I live in Ballwin area. We got pretty bored walking the neighborhood, so we started this group to provide a place for dog owners to bring their best friends for fun outings that go BEYOND THE SIDEWALK.
Sissy is an AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG, a very smart, busy herding breed that isn't particularly suited to living in town. Sissy would've had a life in a cage for 18+ hours a day, if I hadn't taken her. Life in town was not much of a challenge to her, but her hikes with this group have made her come alive. Cattle Dogs need to have a "job" to do. She totally focuses on her mission, which is walking me and being pack leader. Sometimes, it makes her seem unfriendly. She's a good girl, just doesn't care about "playing", only about doing her job and providing great hikes for all of her new friends. Our regular hikers know her "hiking ears" when she's doing her job and leading the dog pack.
We like to get about 10-15 miles a week. In cooler weather, we hike a 5-8 mile trip weekly, with a couple of 2-3 mile trips on days that we're tired or short on time. We just do what we can in the summer.
Castlewood, Rock Hollow, Al Foster and other West County Parks. My personal favs are the Chubb Trail, Forest 44 and Rockwood Reservation, but they're hard trails, and our dogs can't do them in the summertime. Love the more rugged trails with fewer people, and we love mud!
I'm SISSY, PACK LEADER, and I LIKE TO HIKE! My person started this group for me, so I could meet "like-minded" dogs
The Castlewood Creek Walk is still my all-time favorite thing to do with my dog. Thanks to all of our wet dogs and wet-footed people for helping us to enjoy this fabulous play day for the pups, even in the hottest of hot weather!
